Is my GA-X58A-UD3R configured correctly for a SATA3 HDD?

Is my GA-X58A-UD3R configured correctly for a SATA3 HDD?
« on: May 29, 2010, 11:22:45 pm »
I've a Western Digital SATA-III 6.0Gbps 640GB (WD6402AAEX).
It's connected to the SATA-III port.
However, as shown by the HD Tune Pro v4.50, the "Standard" is "ATA8-ACS - SATA-II".
Kindly advise.
Thanks.

I must admit that I am not sure but it may be something to do with it being connected to this crappy Marvel port. It is well known that it doesn't run at full speed and that the Intel ports(SATA2) are actually faster. What have you set the port up to in the BIOS?

Cool... look like it's another hardware problem. Do you think the Marvel chip or this problem has been solved in GA-X58A-UD3R Rev. 2.0?
Thanks.

Hi onemilimeter
I have heard that Gigabyte has asked Marvell to update the drivers but whether that will help and when is another matter. Marvell are well known for being crap for ages now, I don't know why Gigbyte used them anyway. Maybe they were the only option.

Does Asus use the same Marvell chip?

Yes Asus use the Marvell chip too for the SATA3 ports. Maybe there is no option yet unless you go for the new AMD chipset.

I have just checked and even rev2.0 of the motherboard still uses the same Marvell chip the 9128. I thought that maybe they had upgraded it along the way but no.
