New GA-X58A-UD3R - unable to post
« on: April 25, 2010, 07:53:19 pm »
Hello everyone,

I'm having some issues with a new PC I'm putting together and would appreciate some input from someone on this..

For reference I have the following:
Tagan 700W PSU
Mobo = Gigabyte GA-X58A-UD3R Intel X58 (Socket 1366) DDR3 Motherboard
CPU = Intel Core i7 920 D0 Stepping (SLBEJ) 2.66GHz (Nehalem) (Socket LGA1366) - Retail
RAM = Corsair XMS3 6GB (3x2GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C9 (1600MHz) Tri-Channel (CMX6GX3M3A1600C9)
case = Corsair Obsidian 800D Full Tower Case
GPU = Sapphire ATI Radeon HD 5850 Vapor-X 1024MB GDDR5

I have connected the aforementioned peripherals with the motherboard but am not getting any post information and only a black screen from the monitor although it does initially say connecting before a 'no signal' message... I am getting power from my PSU as when I switch the machine on the fans start to turn and the LED lights light up on the motherboard, the DVD RW drive also opens and closes when the button is pressed.
The most disconcerting aspect is that there is no post and the motherboard doesn't beep either to signify an error... I have reseated the cpu, the RAM, the GFX Card and the cpu cooler but still the same issue.. I have also tested each individual piece of Ram in each Ram slot but still the same issue... I removed all RAM but no beeps occurred to signify any issues... I have also tried to clear the CMOS. The LED lights on the motherboard are a mix of green and amber.. No reds..

Been working on this for days and is driving me mad... Could it be a duff motherboard?

Thanks for any advice

Matt

Further to this.. The power is constantly recycling when I switch the machine on.. It will come on and the GFX card will sound like it's about to take off and then it shuts down only to restart 10-15 seconds later, it'll do this on a continuous loop.

It is RAM incompatible problem. Try different RAM brand or modules.

I solve same issue with my board.

Have you tried booting with one DIMM?

Matt,
did you get this solved?
i have the same problem and i'm going nuts too over the possible reason.
and i am sure is not RAM related as it does the same with or without it.

if anyone knows the fix, please reply.

check first the 4+4 pins connector to your mobo and try a different more powerful PSU, try also if possible the GPU and memories in a different pc.

good luck

Ok you wont get any beeps if you dont have the little speaker connected to the motherboard. Also when the board keeps going on and off, from the reviews I have seen on this problem it would be best just to RMA the board for a new one.

I was getting nothing on boot; no beeps, just a quickly turning on and off of the main power. The odd thing was if unplugged the system would turn on for about 10 seconds, then turn off/on/off/on, but if I just rebooted the system it would happen almost immediately.  All of the fans, HDD's, and DVD-drive seemed to be working so I was really worried (I build systems for friends/family about 4 times a year so I'm not an expert, but I'm also not a newb). I got really freaked out thinking it was the CPU overheating and turning off prior to damage but I took my time with the installation.

So after spending about 3 hours this morning and getting really upset I tried to remove everything one at a time. Fan headers, extra HDD, restart button, HD activity, nothing was working.  Then I thought the ram could be the issue (again since there was no post beeps that would lend me to believe it was ram I didn't put much thought into this). After my last build almost drove me mad (1 of my 2 sticks of ram was bad), I always do the single stick in the proper slot (DDR3_1 on this mobo). I started playing musical chairs with the ram (I have a total of 8GB in 4 sticks). When I put the stick in either of the farther away ram slots DDR3_4 or DDR3_3 suddenly I was able to POST with no problem! I was so happy, until I did some more experimentation and believe both the DDR3_1 and DDR3_2 slots are faulty (I can do any combo of sticks (so I know none of my ram modules are faulty) in the 3 and 4 slots, but once I try to put anything in the 1 and 2 slots the system goes back to the no POST reboot-loop).

What this means is I can't run in dual-channel mode, and am going to have to likely RMA the mobo. That is the worst feeling to know you've blown a lot of hours building a system only to have to rip it all apart to RMA the mobo.

My last chance is going to see if there is a bios update that could fix this (if it is just a ram compatibility issue and not an actual damaged mobo).

So my recommendation is to try a single stick in the farthest away slot (DDR3_3) and see if that fixes the problem like it did for me.

HTH as I see a lot of other threads on this forum with people having the same issue.

Another issue I just found out about is these Gigabyte mobo's don't have internal speakers. A lot of newer mobo's have them, and unfortunately my case doesn't either, so I probably have been getting ram error beeps but just couldn't hear them.

I had same problem. I upgraded the power supply to a corsair 750w and it is working now.
Had to wait about 10 seconds for the bip. Also got myself a $2 motherboard speaker to help me out. :)
Good luck.
