Gigabyte x58a-UD9 a small hiccup

Gigabyte x58a-UD9 a small hiccup
« on: June 01, 2010, 08:36:56 am »
Good day fellow brothers,

I was searching on the web hopefully to find some sort of solution to the little problem i have.

I am using the UD9 and I got it because it boast of a 4 way crossfire/SLI at pci-e 16x on 4 slots. Fantastic.

The problem is this. I can't put my 4th piece of 5870 on the 4th pci-e 16 slot because, first, the front USB connectors are blocking and secondly, the power sw/ powed led/ reset/hdd led are in the way. Preventing me from inserting the card. And already i can't put the hybrid passive cooler because i need to connect the aux power supply. :(

So, any brothers out there with a solution to this? Because honestly i don;t see why I need to open my side panel to press on the power button beside the ram slots. :(

Here's a picture to help you understand.

Any help is appreciated.

You definitley have a dilemma there! You lucky bas***d. I think that it's a design problem that Gigabyte didn't forsee. Adding the extra slot is fine but not any good unless you can fill it. Try contacting their technical department and see if they can suggest anything. The only possible solution I can see is if you watercool the cards and use full card blocks that should give you more clearance for the connections.

Thanks for your response...

I will email their tech support and see what they can do about it.

In the mean time, i have yanked out the front USB and switch cables. I only sleep the comp and wake it via keyboard.

I don't like but no choice for now.. grrr

Thanks for the extra pics, looks real cool, but I must admit I would like to see it all water cooled! Have you looked on here:

water cooling looks like a great solution to my problem. To be honest, i'm quite afraid to embark on a water cooling system. Firstly, i have very little knowledge/confidence on how to go about doing all that technical stuff. Although it does look good! haha

Water cooling is trivial, but the "good stuff" costs money, not to mention the fact you need water blocks :)

I intend to go LCS with 3x GTX480 later, for now I must slum it on a GTX280, but I sure love my UD9 :)
