Council on changing the ram GA-X58A-UD7
« on: January 24, 2012, 06:09:02 pm »
I have to replace the triple chan RAM on my PC as the one I have now is broken. The consequences of my choices currently are:
Patriot PVS32G2000LLKN
Corsair CMX6GX3M3A2000C9

What would you recommend?
I have a Noctua NH-D14 heatsink so the space is limited. I also accept other suggestions on ram

thanks

Presently, I have 24Gb in my system for editing purposes (6x4Gb) .... Ive had the Mushkin Silverline and the Blackline ..... both have performed flawlessly even at the maximum populations in my X58 ..... they also represent  astounding value for money when there on special constantly.

I agree; I'm running Mushkin Blackline 2133s in two UD4s.  However, I have had one stick fail after two months, which I hope was a fluke.

I've had Corsair XMS2, Dominator sticks fail a few times over 4 years and never ran at advertised (at a premium price) speeds where the Crucials would but Crucials would fail about every six months.

I've never used Patriot.

My last memories were of ocz but they could not go to 2000MHz the maximum was 1866 if I have to go to take at least 2000MHz. I would prefer the 2133 MHz but I'm afraid that does not work well. I was also afraid that the previous ones do not work well on my mb(ga-x58a-ud7). Not only did I find memories that operate at 2133mhz triple chan ..

I saw these on the site of Ram muskin
999015 - 12GB (3x4GB) DDR3 PC3-17000 10-11-10-28 Blackline
and I must say I'm particularly interesting given that other brands are much more expensive.

What do you think?

I'm using the 2x4GB version (same stick) in my and my wife's PC.  Except for that failure, I'm thrilled with them.

And...they run/are rated at 1.5v, none of that 1.65v stuff.

I don't know why they are priced so well (or is it everyone else is priced lousy?).  If I hadn't used them in the past (PC133 @ 166 was awesome), I would have been skeptical.  I know when I bought mine, they were hard to find (had to go to two different sellers).

I normally use Corsair as I find them second to none but the Patriot and Mushkin are also both excellent brands of RAM. As long as you purchase whatever you decide on as a matched kit you should be alright and make sure that you check the manufacturer's QVL.

Quote from: QVL
Memory modules listed below are for reference only. Due to massive memory models on the market, we can only verify some of them
I've never seen a QVL maintained.

No quite correct and the best and usually most up to date ones are the memory manufacturer's websites QVLs.
