SSD with X58A-UD3R motherboard

SSD with X58A-UD3R motherboard
« on: January 05, 2011, 08:42:28 pm »
I would like to use a OCZ Technology RevoDrive PCI-E SSD in a Gigabyte X58A-UD3R motherboard. However, these SSDs use a PCI-express x4 connector, which isn't supported in this motherboard. My question is, is it possible to install the SSD in the x16 socket. Theoritically, it should work but has anyone actually tried it, and if so, with what result?

Thanks

Hi and welcome to the Gigabyte Forum.

As you quite rightly say a x4 card should be fine in a x16 slot or for that matter an x8 slot.  Ihaven't tried it myself but i know there have been others on the forum who have installed them and as far as I know they work ok. Try doing a search of the forum threads.

It should work, see the compatibility list here

And do note, the BIOS they mention FB just means that was the BIOS used back when that was posted, the latest BIOS should be fine as well.

Thanks for the replies. I've asked both OCZ and Gigabyte about this and OCZ says it should work ok. Still waiting for a reply frpm Gigabyte.

It should, that list is complied from users like us who actually have the hardware and then test and report if it works or not.

So it should be a 100% yes
