The phenom is c3 stepping, i am not trying to overclock, it's just that the ram is meant to be run at 1,35V so in the beginning i left it to auto (meaning 1,5 for the mobo) then i changed it to 1,35 and then set it maually to 1,5.
I tried that with both the memories in slots 3,4 and after that l only left one stick to slot 3.
Firstly i thought bios update would solve the bsod i was getting, i did that and then the pc was on for >5 hours and didnt show any errors, but next morning when i turned it on i had bsod again.
I found that samsung had a firmware update concerning f3 hdd's with sb850 chipsets
http://www.samsung.com/global/business/hdd/faqView.do?b2b_bbs_msg_id=308so even though i read that the problem was the drive not being recognised, which wasnt my case, i applied that firmware. System was steady again.
Next morning though bsod happened again.
There were many different bsod so i dont remember them all and since i recover every time to make the pc usable it only saves the last dmp. One time every rar i was downloading was corrupted.
As i mentioned i had checked the set while being on slots 3,4 with memtest for 7 passes and it had no errors. also i checked the stick on slot 3 for 5 passes and this was also ok, but when i tested the same one after a cold boot followed by bsod, it had 10000 errors.
Yesterday i put the stick, that i had removed, to slot 2 and removed the one that was in slot 3. It's been 20 minutes now and it seems fine.
So am i right to assume that it was that stick's problem or it may be slot's problem too?
I am running windows 7 prof x64.
Also what do you think should be the settings i apply to the ram? let the volt/timings to auto? or set them manually according to ram specs? (the only difference between those two is that in default mode ram volts are 1,5V, timings are the same)
Btw i have another question, what does spd ext. mean in cpu-z? if that means the profile that is applied, why atm it says xmp even though i have set ram volts manually to 1,5V? (and timings to auto)
Thank you for your help, and if you want more info let me know
