I would have thought that your Vivitar camera should be fine for taking that sort of photo. Maybe you just need a tripod so that you can keep it still as I noticed some movement in the previous shots. The other thing you need is a good light source that doesn't provide glare.
Anyway it is looking hopeful that you won't need to take any more pictures of the pins. Fingers crossed.
