How many USB devices can Z390 handle?
« on: January 08, 2020, 01:04:45 am »
Today I have a Z87X-UD5H-CF and am moving to a Aorus Ultra.

After I got my Oculus VR I was in trouble, it requires 3 USB 3.0 ports, they can't be on the same pair, and was having Win7 messages saying I had too many devices connected.

I had to buy a Orico USB board, but now it crashes Win10 just after boot, before I have the chance to install its driver, and Orico just vanished it from its portal.

Did Intel get better on amount of USB devices its chip can handle?

I am researching this for my father.  He wants a Rift S and I am waiting on his 9900K and case to complete his build.

We decided on a Rift S over the Quest because if its improved performance.  We are paring it with a RTX2070.

The X87 chipset didn't have robust USB support.  People had some difficulties with reliable performance.  I feel the Z390 is greatly improved.  Get yourself off Windows 7 and go with the Ultra.  Its a nice board.  I have the Pro and have been pleased.

If u find any info about it, could u share plz?

Where did u read that Z87 is so bad on USB 3.0 controllers?

I just remembered that my Aorus Ultra also has 4 USB 2.0 on its front panel. On my Z87 I only have 4 ports from internal connectors and use 3 of them.

IDK if USB 2.0 controllers share the count limit with 3.0 controllers, but now I'll be able to use at least 6 USB 2.0 ports. And I'm also buying a USB 3.1 plate to use the new internal connector. I also don't know if 3.1 and 3.0 connectors share it.

At least I won't be wasting any internal connector.

I'm also buying a new 3GIO x1 USB board, it has 4 TypeA external connectors, 1 TypeC external connector, + 1 USB 3.0 internal connector which I'll be able to use. I hope it works, it's from some odd company named BTBcoin which I can't find on the web.
