890gpa-ud3h x 890fxa-ud5
« on: July 17, 2010, 05:33:22 pm »
Hi, there! I'm looking for a trusty mobo for my Phenom X6 1090T, and I was wondering which of these two can be my choice. I might do some mild overclocking in the future, though I don't care about it very much right now. The most important to me is the motherboard compatibility with my CPU right out of the box, without needing to flash. I read on the net that the 890FXA-UD5 doesn't need the BIOS update for the 1090T, while the 890GPA-UD3H needs it to run the CPU at it's full performance. Anyone out there with this configuration 890GX/FX + 1090T?  Help me, plz!! Thx!

You are quite right that certainly was the case but I would have thought by now that both the boards would be shipping with the updated BIOS versions to take the new chip. No doubt someone will verify that soon.

By the way, how would I be able to identify whether the board is a revision or not? Is it written on the box or the on board itself? Is it related to the serial number? Thx!

It is printed on the board in the bottom left corner going up the board(just below the slots) and I am not sure about on the box I will have a look and get back to you. I have just checked and it is also printed on the box along with the model and serial number etc.

For out of the box compatibility you will need the GA 890FXA-UD5

What do you say about revisions 2.0 and 2.1 of the 890GPA-UD3H? Do they offer out of the box compatibility as well? I'm asking this because I'm from Brazil, and the price difference between these two boards here is around US$ 100. Is the 890FXA-UD5 worth the cash?

Actually, it's the same price range of ASUS Crosshair IV!

Not sure of the real differences between revisions but there shouldn't be any problems.

Is the 890FXA-UD5 worth the cash?

It's more motherboard than I would ever need so I don't have one ( I am using the GA-790XTA-UD4)  but like the vast majority of Gigabyte boards the short answer is yes, I think it is worth the money.
