2807 Scrambled Pixels

Ever since I bought my GB-BXBT-2807 back in April of 2015, I've had occasional video issues. Since this unit was used for an experimental robot, this problem was small compared to the other project issues.

I've run Ubuntu and W7 with all the updated drivers and BIOS.

Recently I tried to use it as a nice simple W10 machine with all the latest drivers and bios, and again the video issues returned. Basically the problem can best be described as "scrambled pixels".  With the unit just running without any usage by anyone, the screen will just scramble.

The only way to get it back is a complete power down and restart.

Any suggestions?

Can you post a picture of the screen please?

4 possible causes:

Faulty memory
Video driver
Over heating
Problem with video cable or display


The picture on the left is an example of video driver, overheating, display or cable

Sorry for the late reply. Its definitely the one on the left. Since my drivers and cables are OK, it must be heat. I've always positioned the 2807 on a horizontal surface.

While the likelihood of your display or problem with a cable is low, its not really safe to assume the version of drivers you are using is "ok" without trying an earlier or later version before ruling them out as a possible cause.

I'm not familiar with the BRIX line so I cannot recommend what's best for cooling.

Have you run the device with the case open, or with a fan blowing on its internals.  Might be helpful to during your troubleshooting.

Howdy Shadowsports and all,

I did tape a small fan on the bottom side of my vertically mounted 2807 to see what would happen. After several hours I concluded that natural convection was just a wee bit short of what was necessary to keep things cool.

So I took a mini 12vdc fan and attached it in the middle of the top outer shell plate near the On/Off button. The fan hole sits right between the two internal WiFi antennas. Now a very gentle breeze casts over the heat sink fins keeping everything cooler. Not pretty but it works. I wired it to the powerjack. Yes it stays on all the time but I don't think my electric utility will be too burdened.
