Z170-HD3P-CF no boot after installing new ram
« on: January 09, 2021, 02:01:13 pm »
Hi all,

I just bought some more ram for my pc, 2 x 16Gb, installed it in the two "matching" slots and now the system won't post/boot.
The ram I bought is supposed to be compatible according to Gigabyte's list:

Corsair CM16GX4M2B3000C15 (current ram)
Corsair CMK32GX4M2B3000C15 (new ram).

I tried using the other two slots, tried using one of the new sticks (in each and every slot)and nothing. Tried the other new stick in every slot, again, nothing.

I put the old ram back and it works.

Is the ram I bought incompatible? :(

Grateful for any help.

Greetings,
You've got 2 threads (same system).  One stating you can't boot due to the addition of RAM and the other regarding a new disk.

From the sound of things, you got the system started again?

But here you saying the system won't start with the addition of new RAM?

So what is the status?

I updated the thread about the new drive, that's ok now. I didn't realise I could lock threads, I'll do that to avoid confusion.

Current status is that the system won't boot with the new RAM installed, it won't even get to the initial screen (is it called "post"?)

On the old memory how do you have it set in the Bios? If you have set to XMP disable that and than try the new memory.

Because all memory has base rate of 2133. If it boots then try the XMP. If it boots then disable XMP again and put the old memory to see if they all boot.

If they do than try the XMP. I bet it will not work. I bet the old memory is single side and the new is double side. A lot DDR4 memory is single side 4gb & 8gb sticks.

One other thing if you are over clocking save it to profile and than clear the cmos and start from new.

One more thing do all slots work with the old memory?
