Is it possible to downgrade usb 3.0 port - H110M-S2H?
« on: September 19, 2021, 08:17:03 am »
I've tried to install my printer - Canon Pixma MG2550S to my pc, mobo H110M-S2H. after a few unsuccessful attempts, I've called the Canon printer support. the person that I spoke to gained remote access to my computer and told me that - as far as I understood - that in the device manager only usb 3.0 appears while the printer is compatible only with usb 2.0.
I've looked into the board's manual and I've seen that two usb ports are designated to usb 2.0 on the back panel (as well as the ports on the mother board itself). connecting the printer to the usb 2.0 port on the back panel didn't caused the printer to be recognized. is there some action needed to carried out in order to make the usb 2.0 ports operable?

Greetings,
Your USB 3.0 ports are backwards compatible with USB 2.0 so your printer should work when directly connected (no hubs, adapters or headers with incorrect pin out, etc) to any of the ports.

4 x USB 3.0 (USB 3.1 Gen 1)/2.0 ports (2 ports on the back panel, 2 ports available through the internal USB header)
8 x USB 2.0/1.1 ports (4 ports on the back panel, 4 ports available through the internal USB headers)

Have you verified the cable you are using is correct and working properly?

I am active on the Canon forums and have a fair amount of experience with many of their products.

Unfortunately, Canon USA does not provide support for non US products on its forums.

Downloads for your product are here:

https://www.canon-europe.com/support/consumer_products/products/fax__multifunctionals/inkjet/pixma_mg_series/pixma_mg2550s.html?type=software&language=en&os=windows%2010%20(64-bit)

Download / Installation Procedures
IMPORTANT: Be sure to connect your PC to the Internet while performing the following:
1. Click the link, select [ Save ], specify "Save As", then click [ Save ] to download the file.
2. The downloaded file will be saved in the specified place in the self-extracting form (.exe format ).
3. Double-click the downloaded .exe file. It will be decompressed and the Setup screen will be displayed. Follow the instructions to install the software and perform the necessary settings.

While I can confirm USB 3.0/2/0 support on your board, support for your canon product goes beyond the scope of this forum.

Hi and thanx for your reply. after giving up my attempts to install the printer, I've contacted the local support of Canon printers. the first two people there, failed to install it, even after remote entering my computer. the third person connected my computer as well and he managed to install the software. I've asked him if he can tell me why I wasn't able to do it myself. the evasive answer that given was that he only defined the driver. what I don't understand is how it's done that an ordinary person who tries to install the printer from the original CD supplied with the printer, following the on screen instructions, is not able to do so and needs the support. one more odd thing that occurd is that during the installation process appeared a message the the printer was recognized and later on another message telling that the printer wasn't recognized. strange.

Hi,

I had a similar issue with my printer, so I had to use the slower USB ports, those underneath your RJ-45 port or LAN port. I then used the latest drivers from the manufacturers website and now it is functioning.

teknology9 - after my attempts to install from the original CD failed - I did just that. I've downloaded from Canon's website the installation software (and I've checked the board's manual to see which USB ports to use), but the outcome remained the same. I still wonder that a printer from a manufacturer like Canon, causes such problems that a person that isn't a computer expert, isn't able to install. I would like to mention that on my previous computer with windows 7 o.s. the installation was flawless, so I guess that there a fault with the driver for windows 10.
