Latest Realtek Sound Driver
« on: October 09, 2021, 05:19:25 pm »
Hi,

I am trying to install the latest Realtek sound driver for my motherboard but it will not install as before. Instead it goes around in a loop. The install shield keeps asking do I want to reboot my PC now or later.

I have  uninstalled the previous driver and thought it would be a straight forward install, any ideas folks?

Windows 10 Home
Version 21H1

Update:
Realtek HD is showing in Device Manager but the icon does not show in Program & Features for some reason. Nevertheless I now have sound.
Thanks

Have you tried to reboot because it might be like Ati drivers. When windows loads the drivers for most everything. Ati drivers will always ask to reboot before installing the new driver.

I don't worry about drivers on a computer. Since windows 10 does everything for you. Plus if everything is working leave well enough alone. The only driver I will install is the graphics driver. That is most likely when I first installed windows too.

My video driver is 3/2021, sound driver 9/2020, & Network driver 9/2019.

So if you got your sound working that is good. I as always say "If it isn't broke don't fix it" LOL

Hi,
Yes, I have tried to reboot as per instructions on the install shield. It then takes me back to the install shield and then the same options appear for a reboot now or later on.

The driver is for both Windows 10 and 11. Yes it's working but no icon appears in Program & Features.

Thanks for the reply.

For the hell of it I installed the realtek sound driver 9/2019. I had a Microsoft driver and it was really newer 9/2020. It installed with no problem and it does have a icon in the Programs & Features.

I have the Ga-x299x-aorus-master board. I'll have to check my GA-Z490 Vision G and what that has for a driver.

OK Just check Ga-z490 Vision G and the driver is realtek. But it is a older driver 1/2020. Now the thing is I'm still for some reason running version 2004 on windows 10. LOL

What version windows you running? I tried to install the newest driver and it is telling me to uninstall the old driver and reboot.

Hi,

The Windows 10 version I have installed is version 21H1. I uninstalled  the old driver first from  B460M AORUS PRO (rev. 1.0) motherboard and then what happened afterwards is as stated above.

I had this exact problem, I think, where the uninstall was continuously looping. You have to fully uninstall your audio yourself, remove the software install and the drivers from control panel / device manager and if you can prevent it trying to install auto on reboot, you will be able to properly install the drivers you are having the loop issue with. I googled the issue and found the answer (not being sarcastic) after a bit of digging. I don't remember which gave the exact method sorry but it was generally this.

I am having a sound / echoing crackle that fades on when enough sound hits the sound card. I tried this, no solution yet.

Its likely that going back one or two driver versions will not exhibit this looping install behavior.

I have sound drivers on one machine W10 21H1 from 2014.  They are working perfectly.

I have had this problem with the installation loop on Windows 11.   After informing Gigabyte I think a new update was added as it was quickly fixed but with Realtek no longer adding support for 5.1 sound I wanted to know if there is software or if they still make PCI soundcards that support the 5.1 format?

What Realtek have done is made having a great sound setup pointless as you can now only get 2.1 sound no matter what your setup is.

I managed to fix this problem by uninstalling the drivers and the registry entries but wanted to know if anyone else has this problem or if it is covered somewhere else?

I have the Aorus Ultra Z390 and the only audio options I get are 2.1 sound and no 5.1.

I have the Logitech z906 5.1 speakers connected through S/PDIF.

If as I have been told, Realtek no longer offer support for 5.1, is there a work around or alternative or should I just install a sound card as the sound on Aorus motherboards is no longer super doopa as we are led to believe?

#1 if you don't want windows to install any drives disconnect from the internet.
#2 What I would do is let windows to install the sound driver. Then install the realtek driver over the one that windows has put in.
#3 The thing is people get to bent out of shape on stuff like this. If I worried about the small stuff on drivers on my computer I wouldn't be enjoying it. 80% to 90% of my drivers are out date. If I'm not having any problems, I don't update.

latest Realtek audio driver is 6.0.9287.1 released early Feb. 2022 although it was listed for recent aorus/aero laptops but also works on recent Gigabyte boards as well.

and yes, before installing or uninstalling/removing Realtek audio driver, disconnect from the internet.  then after installing or updating to new driver and rebooting, reconnect to internet.
Gigabyte seems to only put that little "disclaimer" for the realtek audio driver download for recent AORUS/AERO laptops such as aorus 17x 12th gen intel only but not for motherboards
