Correct settings G.Skill 2400mhz on X58A-UD3R r2.0 + i7 920? (aspiring 2200mhz)

Hi! Hope you all are doing fine 😊

I need some help! I have this PC

-   Gigabyte X58A-UD3R r2.0
-   I7 920
-   Windows 10

Situation: finally I upgraded my ram. I had 3x2gb 1333mhz of Corsair XMS3. I needed way more RAM since years so finally I upgraded and bought two pairs of G.Skill Ares 2400mhz 2x8GB (32GB in total).

Before I bought the mentionited RAM I researched and was supposed to not have problems with the upgrade if I ran the RAM at 2200mhz or so because my motherboard its compatible with 2200mhz.

But I can’t go up more than 1600mhz. If I turn on XMP the system will restart without even show the BIOS. Any settings that I tried higher than 1600mhz the computer will reboot before show BIOS. Im using "Auto" on settings because I dont have the knowledge to configure all manually unfortunately.

If helps something I have 133x22 for my CPU. I don’t want to overclock because I don’t have the thermal conditions to do it. I only want to run the RAM at optimes values for my system.

Unfortunately, the memory you have chosen is not natively supported by your board (Chipset and CPU).

You are not going to get an out of box "Plug and Play" experience with this RAM. If you have 32GB of addressable memory be happy.

The board does support memory modules up to 2200Mhz, but the DIMM's might run at reduced speeds if the following is true:

Intel processors come in four different types: Single Channel, Dual Channel, Triple Channel, and Flex Mode. Maximum supported memory speed may be lower when populating multiple DIMMs per channel on products that support multiple memory channels.

What this means.  You may be able to manually set memory settings in M.I.T. and receive some degree of success with this RAM, but you'll have to experiment to find out what works and what doesn't.

You will need to OC the RAM to some degree to get it to run faster than 1600Mhz.  This may or may not affect CPU as this is an older board now.  There is not an easy solution to this issue I'm afraid.

I have to agree with him on this. The one problem when you up the speed of the memory in older board. That memory really is going to run slower then if you left at 1333.

Even today I will not buy memory over DRR4-2133. The lower the cashe the faster the memory will run.

I'm with you.  I'd rather run slower RAM with faster timings.

Since I don't OC, this isn't a problem.
