Quiet mode fans in Aero Gigabyte laptop
« on: March 09, 2022, 04:35:34 pm »
Hi everybody. I'm pretty happy with the gaming performance in Quiet mode, and I'm more interested in gameplay than cutting edge shaders. However, my Aero Gigabyte i7 RTX2060 motherboard recently melted, thankfully repaired under warranty.
Could always using Quiet mode have done this or contributed to it? Now I'm out of warranty I want to do everything to make sure it doesn't happen again!

I have a MSI gaming Laptop. Quiet mode is only good basic use. For gaming you really have it set for that performance. The CPU & Video really get hot.

One thing you can try is get a cooling pad for under the laptop. Then you can set the fan speed at some thing that isn't to high. But still keep things cool so it will not melt things again.

Greetings,
I thoroughly agree with dmdilks.  Get a cooling pad, and be willing to use something other than Quiet Mode even for casual gaming.  I have a Lenovo Legion and I run its fans in performance mode much of the time.  Laptops these days are being designed around weight and compactness.  Manufacturers are packing powerful heat generating GPU's into tiny cases and if you are gaming hard (or even casually) you need to be mindful of heat.

Thanks both. Maybe I'll crank it up a notch and go to headphones so the noise isn't too distracting. I thought the system just knew to turn down the GPU speed if the heat was too high but if it's in any way dangerous I'd rather be safe than sorry. Normal/Performance from now on!

I just got a really nice Fan Pad from Amazon. My Laptop always ran with the in the lower 40C. The fan pad keeps it in the Low 30c. Even when playing a games. It is now in Mid to High 40c. Now when I put my hand on the laptop it is just warm when it was hotter before the new fan pad.
