Building a new beast with the following specs:
Ga-X58A-UD3 (Rev 2) - FA bios
Intel i7 980x
12GB Corsair RAM (6x2G CMD12GX3M6A1600C8)
Inno3D GTX 480 1536MB graphics
2GB Raid 5 3-drive array on a Highpoint RR-3510 raid card
Corsair 1000W CMPSU-1000HXUK PSU
If the unit posts everything works fine. No problems.
If I shut the computer down from Windows and leave it for an hour or so with the mains supply to the ATX PSU still on but the PC in soft-off, then when I next attempt to power up, the PC does not initialize the graphics correctly - but is happy enough that it doesn't "halt on all errors but keyboard" and starts to boot windows but with neither of the two displays connected to the system seeing output on the DVI interfaces.
The only way to recover the situation is to turn the mains off and power up from a cold start. This works every time. As does starting with the mains supply off and then powering up the machine. POSTs every time and stable as a rock with the graphics working.
I've changed the graphics card over for a GF260 I use without problem in another machine, problem still present. And I've also tried another 1000W PSU from Xilence in the system. Problem of failure to initialize the DVI outputs on the graphics card at POST persists.
This all points to a problem with the GA-X58A-UD3 starting up from soft-off. Anyone else had a similar problem? Is it a bad example of the board, or is it something that is more common with this model?
