Does GA-M68M-S2P support S3 standby?
« on: April 27, 2010, 02:40:51 pm »
Hello All

I'm about to replace my Intel Server board in my HTPC/media server in favor of a Gigabyte/AMD combo (Athlon II 4200 scavenged from gaming/desktop that's being upgraded).

My question is this:
does the GA-M68M-S2P support S3 standby?  ie suspend-to-RAM, fans off, etc.
How about wake-on-LAN?

Would not have thought to ask this question in the past, but current MSI board in my gaming rig doesn't support S3.

Definite answers with 100% confidence appreciated, as this will be the deciding factor on whether or not I buy the board.

Thanks for the advice...

Sorry, I just realized that I posted this on 785G board by mistake.  Can admin move it to the AMD general section, or should I repost?

Page 42 of manual says about S3. Not 100% sure on wake on LAN. Manual says that if EuP is enabled that wakeup on lan will be disabled. But theres nothing that specifically says it has Wake up on lan. Maybe someone from Gigabyte could clarify?

Apparently it does. I had the same question with the motherboard when I bought it, but I've gotten it up and using WOL.

I had to enable both the PME wakeup AND the Modem Call wakeup in BIOS for it to work.

Thought that was strange, but I can send my box a magic packet and it boots up.

Yes it definitely does. See manual page 42.

S3(STR) Enables the system to enter the ACPI S3 (Suspend to RAM) sleep state (default). In S3 sleep state, the system appears to be off and consumes less power than in the S1 state. When signaled by a wake-up device or event, the system resumes to its working state exactly where it was left off.

Yes, sometimes the manuals are right but, more often than not, the information is written in such a way as to confuse the issue rather than being clear and concise. Hence the reason for such questions being raised.

I have discovered in various Mobo Manuals, contradictions and very poor explanations which, if you are new to PC building can seem very confusing. Copy & Paste has a lot to answer for!  ::)
Remember, when all else fails a cup of tea and a good swear will often help! It won't solve the problem but it will make you feel better.
