Gigabyte UD9: Fan Header Voltage

Gigabyte UD9: Fan Header Voltage
« on: August 19, 2010, 10:32:44 pm »
Hi,

I've recently connected a CoolIT Vantage CPU cooler to a UD9 motherboard.

Unfortunately, the unit is not functioning as expected. It appears as though the unit is not receiving the full 12V from the CPU fan header on boot up.

Apparently users have seen similar issues on other Gigabyte motherboards.

Has anyone experienced such issues with fan headers on Gigabyte boards?

Cheers,

CraigyT

A lot of the bigger coolers really need to be driven straight from the PSU now. They don't take kindly to being connected to the motherboard fan headers. It isn't just limited to Gigabyte boards either. In fact with the 2oz copper lands they can carry more current than a lot of makes.
