GA-P43-ES3G: Front audio connection issue
« on: August 23, 2010, 04:05:36 pm »
Hi all,

I recently took delivery of a 5.25" media dashboard for my home computer, primarily for the use of front-panel audio connections.  The panel has been installed without trouble, but I have discovered that when I connect headphones to the front audio jack, it does not transfer audio output to the headphones and mute the speakers.

I am using the onboard ICH10 HD audio controller and the front audio panel connector on the mainboard.  I have been into the BIOS, looking for anything that may need to be altered to enable front panel audio but I cannot find anything obviously related to it.  Any assistance would be greatly appreciated in this matter.

Hi and welcome to the forum. I am not sure that there is any way built in to enable you to do this automatically. You could of course always just turn off the speakers when you wanted to use the headphones.

Maybe I should have been a little clearer in the original post - it doesn't mute the speakers and allow me to listen through the headphones; the front audio connectors do not function at all.  All the other functions on the dashboard work fine, it's just the audio that doesn't.

Help!

Oh, I see. Where have you connected the front audio output to on the motherboard?

To the front audio header connector at the rear of the board, near the PCI Express x16 slot - I assume that's all I need to do, connection-wise?

Your audio is not the onboard ICH10 HD its by Realtek.

You likely don't have Azalia audio connector but a AC'97 audio connector I remember that the way around this is to open up the  Realtek HD audio manger panel > click on the yellow looking folder on the right and check “Disable front panel jack detection” this setting has nothing to do with mute the speakers and listen through the headphones settings.

Cheers Peter, that's done it - now I just need to remember to kill the speakers when I use the phones! :D

Yes I thought that setting didn’t affect the mute speakers when headphones are plugged in but after testing it here it does only a Azalia audio connector will allow you to mute speakers when headphones are plugged.
