possible use full 4 Gb ga-h55m-s2hp
« on: August 24, 2010, 08:11:44 pm »
Intel i5-750 Gigabyte ga-h55m s2hp, F3 and F4 (latest BIOS)
XFX GTS 250 1GB
XFX 750W PSU
4GB of GEIL (2x2GB DIMMs) - rated DDR3 1333 1.5v

Tested with value Kingston and Coursair and the problem persist

I bought a motherboard ga-h55m-s2hp and unfortunately she is not using the full 4 Gb system perfectly in a 64-bit only 3.8 GB

Memtest does not accuse errors

I'm using the i5 750 and a video card offboard and the bios continues reserving memory even with video offboard.

In the bios detecting 4Gb is made, but upon entering the system 64-bit operating it incorrectly reserve memory.

The problem I have occurs in other motherboards from gigabyte with other users

Possible to use full 4GB with GA-H55M-UD2H?

***Gigabyte H55/H57 motherboard discussion*** - Overclockers UK Forums

GA-H55M-UD2H & 4GB memory

This decreased my performance since it does not i use the full 4 Gb of dual channel only 3.8

Test all the hardware with other ga-h55m-s2hp and the problems persisted

Test all the hardware with another motherboard (ASUS) and no problems and pins are no problem, which demonstrates that there is a defect manufacture this motherboard or bios.

I hope my problem is resolved as quickly as possible because I'm a customer and like the gigabyte mark and I remain a customer.

Sorry for bad English.

It may well be addressed in a future BIOS update which I know doesn't help you now but at least is hope for the future.
Can you list the full part numbers of the two types of memory thta you have tried please?

Well your memory isn't on the QVL for your Gigabyte motherboard and I couldn't find anywhere on the Geil site which could confirm it's compatibility either which isn't a good start. Secondly your memory is sold singularly not in matched pairs so you would have to run it in Single Channel Mode. :-\

I bought two identical combs ...

The dual channel works!

And even if single channel

Reserve memory for an integrated VGA processor that does not exist in the i5 750 is a mistake!

Anyway to put the offboard card that should not happen!

And other memories were tested ...

The reserved memory is for your HD VGA integrated in the Intel® H55 Express Chipset

Pierre

This can not be normal. This is a failure.

Possibly a flaw that was not observed in tests and can be fixed by a bios update.

Note well the "Activates the onboard graphics only if no PCI Express graphics card is installed"

And still reserving memory for activation, the problem is here.

My processor is an i5 750 and it has no VGA on it.

I  cannot test your problem because i have not your motherboard !!

but in the documentation  :

On the "Advanced BIOS Features" page - set:

"Init Display First" to "Onboard" (for some ungodly reason, these things default to 'PCI'!)
"Onboard VGA" to "Always Enable"
"On-Chip Frame Buffer Size"32MB+2MB for GTT, 64MB+2MB for GTT (défaut), 128MB+2MB for GTT"

*** Have you the same problem with Onboard VGA Disabled  ?

Have you the same problem with Onboard VGA Disabled  ?

there are only two options:

Enable if no Ext PEG

Always Enable

there is no option "Disable Onboard VGA"

The option

Enable if no Ext PEG

Should be doing everything right

Thanks!

Yes I would agree if you have a dedicated graphics card then that would be the option to choose.

This option is default

I have GTS 250 and i5 750 (without onboard video) and use a 64-bit OS.

When gigabyte can solve this problem?

It would seem to be an explanation of the missing memory if some is reserved for the graphics although this was something that used to happen years ago, now it is usually dynamically allocated as needed within certain parameters. I would assume it is something that could be fixed with a BIOS update but if that is the case I can't understand why it hasn't been done already. Have you looked on the Tweaktown site for any newer updates(they would probably be betas)?
