GA-P55-US3L help with hibernate please
« on: December 22, 2010, 10:00:10 pm »
Probably a very simple question. How do I put my pc into hibernate using Smart6? I can see how to do it via Windows (7) but I thought it was quicker using Gigabytes software.

Hi and welcome to the Gigabyte Forum.

There must be many people on here who could help you I am sure but I am afraid in this instance I am not one of them. I don't use the free software utilities provided by motherboard manufacturers as I find they tend to cause more problems than they save. I am sure someone will come along though.

What do you mean, quicker? I think the quickest way would be to change the power button on the case to make it hibernate when pressed (not held obviously). Not sure how or why the software would contain that option, though.

Perhaps I should have said faster, meaning the process of hibernating and coming back up is supposed to faster using Gigabyte software.

I really don't know what you are after I'm afraid.  I don't see how the Gigabyte software would be able to be faster to work than the standard software. :-\

OK, with this board came the Smart6 software, which includes Quickboot. The help section says "Instructions:

Select the Enable check box below the BIOS QuickBoot or OS QuickBoot item and then click Save to

save the settings.

BIOS QuickBoot shortens hardware detection time during system boot-up if no hardware device is added

or changed.

OS QuickBoot allows the system to enter S3 (standby)+S4 (hibernation) mode after a normal shutdown.

When signaled by a wake-up device or event, the system can resume to its working state exactly where

it was left off.

What I am querying is using Windows to hibernate the pc going to be slower than using Smart6, because I dont see Smart6 is working correctly, as during a normal shutdown Windows forces the shutdown of programs ie Firefox and WLM

EDIT. Just tried saving settings again in Smart6 and out my pc through shutdown procedure and it actually worked and restarted my pc with firefox, WLM and other folders exactly the same as I had shutdown. Thanks for help

I am glad you managed to sort it out for yourself. Personally I am not in favour of these free programs that are given away with motherboards as oftewn they are more or less gimmicks. THere is nothing in most of them that you couldn't do for your self and a few BIOS tweaks etc.
