TRIM command Marvell SATA3 x58a-ud7
« on: September 07, 2010, 01:33:31 am »
Is there official word as to whether the TRIM command can work on an SSD with the Marvell 9128 SATA3 controller?

I want to benefit from the high speeds of a Crucial c300 SSD on the 6Gb/s SATA3 Marvell controller ports on my x58a-ud7 (rev 2.0) motherboard with Windows 7 Pro 64bit.

I have seen online rumors that say both "yes, TRIM can work with the MSAHCI driver" and "no, use the ICH10 SATA2 ports if you want TRIM."

Are there official instructions anywhere?

There has been no official statement of fact as far as I am aware on the TRIM and Marvell chip subject. TRIM is enabled by default in Windows 7 and can then be passed to the drive. It doesn't matter whether it is set up as IDE or AHCI. Even if you interigate Windows it will only tell you that TRIM is enabled not whether it is actuallly functioning. Sorry I can't hlep more than that.

I have tested three controllers this past week, and only the Intel controller passes along TRIM commands to the drives.

Yes that is basically the same as my information. Stick to the Intel ICH10R controller for TRIM.

yes correct, i've been using intel chipset based pcs for a long time. quite good experience in comparison with via chipsets which were disaster imho.
