The long and the short of it is this. The main differences between Tri-channel and Dual Channel kits is that you will need to spend a little longer on with dual channel ram sticks on a X58 set up to get them perfectly tuned. For no other reason than that they are matched. The SPD factor as you said. But it is not all that difficult, patience and a calm mind are all the tools needed.
And with the help and assistance of the members like yourself of this forum even the most inexperienced will be able to achieve that.
