Yes well you have at least three fairly badly bent pins there at first look. Near the centre(if you look on the first pic), middle of bottom section.

Or if you look on image 4 near the centre at 9 O'clock

Image 3 shows the bent pins best for me................Now you need a good magnifying glass and some tweezers and very, very carefully try and straighten them back so they align with the rest. Be patient and don't break any otherwise by by mobo lol. Then put your rig back together and see you if have any joy!

You also have one directly opposite on the same side of the board but the outer line of pins(image 3)

I have circled your bent pins, looks like you have at least 4 bent pins, possibly 5, and you may or may not be able to correct the one on the outer edge.

You may also make things worse by trying to bend them back, so do not attempt it unless you know what you are doing, or are ready to make things worse and possibly be denied a RMA.  If this is not something you can do, then it would be best for you to start the RMA Process now and see if they will RMA the board for you.

Do you think this is due to my hamfistedness? Or a manufacturing defect?

To be honest there are so many with bent pins turning up at the moment and not just Gigabyte (see the thread here: http://forum.giga-byte.co.uk/index.php/topic,2808.15.html ) that it is recognised as a manufacturing defect. So the chances are that you did not do the damage. Get it RMAed if you are unsure about your proficiency in repairing them.

Well, NewEgg has issued an RMA on it so I will try again... and this time inspect the socket very closely before I do anything with it. Thanks for all the help, I really appreciate it.

Nice of them to RMA for you!   Did you call it in?  Did you mention the pins?

Be careful with the next socket!
