Hello all,

i've just buyed an GA-H55M-UD2H with an Core I3, 2x2G kingmax ddr3 1333mhz, 550w Antec PSU, 500G WD Caviar Black.
The memory modules are installed on the white sockets. I use the onboard Core I3 gfx chip on the d-sub port. The sistem starts ok, with no error messages, one short beep after POST. The box cooler is instaled correctly, the cpu's temperature is in normal limits. All components are recognised.Since i have no Windows installed, it stops at an boot error.

The propblem: at aprox. 5 sec, the screens turns black for an second, and then the process repeats itself. This happens even if i am in any of the BIOS menus. The screen goes black even at the hdd boot error.

Any sugestions?

Hi and welcome to the forum.
You don't say which processor you have and is it compatible with the motherboard/BIOS? Some processors don't support the onboard graphics. Pleas e list your harware so we can have a better idea.

Depending on the stepping version you will need either F4 or F9 to be compatible with the motherboard.

Can you please test this with a second monitor to see if the same happens?

Also test HDMI connection if you can

The oddest thing is that i've managed to install an windos xp, and the problem dissapears  :-[. I've let the computer to run for 2h, working at it in the meanwhile, and no screen blackouts. The problem persists in bios and ms-dos environment. I don't have an hdmi screen to test, and when i thougt to test an dvi cable monitor, windows already was installed and i was happy that it worked, so i did'n manage to test the dvi port.
One other thing i've instaled SiSoftware Sandra 2010, and when run, the computer forced restart.

Do I understand right that you are using an old installation of Windows to run your new machine? If so I would advise you to backup all your important data and format the drive, then do a clean install of Windows.

I agree, if you are using an old windows install that may be part of what is causing you issues.   A clean install would be best

As i've said in my first post, the sistem is brand new, including the hdd, and it's a fresh format and install of windows, and the blackout problem appered before i've installed an operating sistem. I  thing that blackouts in bios and ms-dos excludes any problem with windows or drivers.

Ahh yes, sorry, I forgot you also mentioned it happens in the BIOS too.

It would be best to continue troubleshooting this if you could borrow another monitor so you could try to connect via HDMI, and or just to test another monitor just to be sure it's not all due to the monitor you are using now.

What do you have the BIOS set to regarding primary booting for graphics?

I've set it to onboard, and there was another option where i set "onboard if no PEG"

It probably wont help, but also be sure you set Init First Display to onboard as well.

In that case it should be correct. The only other thing I can think of that may cause your problems(apart from a faulty CPU or motherboard) is the pins on your CPU socket. There have been many instances recently of bent pins and they cause all sorts of problems. You would need to remove your CPU to see. If you do I would suggest taking a few macro photos and post them here for us to see.
