GA-EP45-UD3LR: Xpress Recovery2 failed
« on: September 27, 2010, 02:28:37 pm »
I installed windows 7 64bit to a 500gb hard disk using a 195,31 gb partition and left the rest of the disk as unallocated space. After installing the drivers, I tried many times to use Xpress Recovery2 to backup the system.Xpress Recovery2 makes two passes of copying the files.A little before it completes the second copy I get the "backup failed" and have to restart the system. I partitioned the unallocated space and left 19,53gb  as unallocated space(the size of the files to be copied is about 18gb) and tried again with Xpress Recovery2. The same result. What am I doing wrong? How can I make a backup using Xpress Recovery2?

Motherboard: GA-EP45-UD3LR
Bios version: F7
CPU:Intel 2 Duo E8200@2,66 Ghz
Memory:Kingston DDR II SDram 2x2048 Mbytes

Have you formatted the partition you want to use for Xpress Recovery?

No.The instructions say that I should leave the unallocated space as it is. I suppose Xpress Recovery2 should create the partition needed. But if you say so I will partition the unallocated space and give it a try once again.

No as I understand it you don't need to. It was just a question. For your information though partitioning and formatting are two totally different things. ;)
Firstly you must make sure that the drive you are trying to use it on is the first drive (IDE0, SATA0,then IDE1 etc) in use. Secondly you will need to leave a lot more unallocated space than the size of the files to be written. 19Gb isn't enough!

Well..I created the partition of 19,5 gb(primary partition)and restarted the pc.Started the Xpress Recovery2 and get the following:Not enough HDD free Size for image backup! Error: 403
What I understand is that Xpress Recovery2 would have to make the partition, and for some reason fails to make it.
At first like I wrote in my first post I partitioned the 500 gb disk and used 195,31 gb for the first partition. I left the rest of the disk unallocated. This disk is in channel 0 (SATA 0) It also failed.

The unallocated space must be at the end of the drive.

Do you have any IDE drives?

Right. It is so. And no IDE drives

In that case I can't understand why it's not working unless you have a disk with a corrupt file on it.
I would advise putting in a question to GGTS and see what they say.
This is another reason why I don't advise people to use these free utilities that come with the motherboards. More often than not they either don't work or even worse end up naffing up(technical term) your system.

I am not a newbie in computers and I think I followed the instructions about Xpress Recovery2.It's strange that it doesn't work. I think, I will use acronis to make an image later when I install the soft.paquets. Thank you for your concern.
Take care

Sorry I couldn't be of more assistance this time but I think that you are probably taking a better route anyway. Good luck.
