suggestion for hd and ram
« on: November 16, 2010, 11:39:36 pm »
Hi everyone. Sorry for my english. i would like to built a pc with 1090t and a gigabyte mainboard, i think the 890gpa ud3, with the 890gx chipset.
2 questions:
1 It's ok for 2x4gb ram corsair (not 4x2gb but 2x4gb)? CMX8GX3M2A1600C9
2 it's ok for WD green like storage, and WD R3 like hard disk for OS?
I ask for the compatibility with this motherboard, i would not have surprises

Thank you, Davide

Hi Davide,

There shouldn't be an issue with running 2X4 Gig sticks of RAM as the motherboard will support 16 Gig in total. The only issue I can see, is with running 1600 MHz RAM as the AM3 CPU's don't really like RAM at that speed. You will find that it is better running at 1333 MHz and it's safer for the CPU too.

The use of WD Green drives for storage shouldn't cause any problems but don't be tempted to use one for the OS as you could then run into a few problems.

If you are referring to a WD Caviar Black SATA3 6GB/s HDD when you ask about WD R3 for the OS then yes, you will be OK with this option.
Remember, when all else fails a cup of tea and a good swear will often help! It won't solve the problem but it will make you feel better.

thanks a lot. It's not simplet to try a 2x4gb at 1333 in the shop where i buy. But i'll watch. For hard disk, yes of course the green is only for storage (i don't know if there is a brand of hard disk that gigabyte "prefer") but for OS is non the black caviar, is the R3 (abys), that should be better. So if is ok for black, i think also for R3 no problem
