X58A-UD3R + GTX460 Driver Problem

Hi, just done a new build with existng recently purchased single Palit GTX 460 in new mobo as above (FE BIOS) with 260.99 driver in PCI-E slot 1 and Win7 x64.  It worked fine in previous P35 system with same driver but I get varied driver problems from "driver not responding" to black screen after Welcome to freeze when IE loads (both 8 and 9).  Have tried every current Gigabyte driver over last 3 weeks and just installed new 700W Coolermaster 700 Silent Pro Gold to no avail.  I'm not trying to run SLI, just a single card (no room for any more with PCI slot taken by xFi XtremeGamer).  I am fairly experienced but wonder am I missing a basic or does 260.99 just not work on X58 with just one GPU?  I have seen others on here struggling with SLI but this is just the one board.  
BIOS is on Optimized Default.  Works fine as standard VGA (no driver).  Older and Beta 265 driver no different.
Any help would be appreciated while I have hair left.  Thanks.

Hi and welcome to the Gigabyte Forum.

I can see no obvious reason for your GPU not to work correctly. Your PSU is plenty powerful enough. You have it in the right slot, the top one.

I would suggest removing the X-Fi Gamer card first and see if that makes any difference.

Also double check all the power cables.

If still no joy try clearing the CMOS.

Remove the power cable from the mains supply and then press the power switch on the case for a few seconds just to drain any residual energy in the PSU capacitors.

Once done remove the motherboard battery for at least ten minutes before replacing it.
 
Next plug back into the mains supply and boot.
 
You will now need to enter the BIOS by pressing DEL and load Opimised BIOS Defaults.

Make any other changes to the BIOS settings to suit your self and then press F10 to save and exit.

Here was my case. Nothing helped, RMA`d everything. Built new system without Gigabyte... Actually, I never found out what was the issue, but, after all, I think this was overall MB powering problem (onboard power management design), not the PSU.

Well heartfelt thanks DM; I removed the X-Fi, installed 260.99 (been running on VGA) and after an initial "driver not responding" on 1st boot reaching the Desktop it has been fine for several restarts and cold boots - which is unprecedented.  I'm now going to try putting the sound card back and see what happens... 
I had been thinking of power Vicc, hence purchasing the larger 700W (previously on 450W) as this new case (Thermaltake Xaser VI) has larger fans than I had before and I'm on an i7 950 instead of E6750. 
Have had the GTX out and re-seated once also checking all power connectors secure.  Thought possibly was new 6G SATA drive at one time too but it's now on ICH10.  Have seen lots of BIOS power settings but didn't want to mess with them.  It seems now after Dm's advice the card is working again.

Well how happy am I ? 
Re-inserted XFI, no problems, couple of boots, still fine.  Checked I still had latest driver, I did, installed, several warm and cold boots later all is still well.
Put the USB3 driver back on, still fine!
DM if you are ever in Sheffield, I owe you a large bottle of your favourite; I've been on this 4 frustrating weeks and was losing the will to live.  Now I can finally do what I bought the damned thing for - play games faster!
Such a simple solution - you are a godsend.  Enough gushing, but thank you very much indeed!
