GA-P55A-UD4P and Mushkin 4x4GB DDR1333
« on: October 21, 2010, 03:16:51 am »
Hello Everyone!

I hope you guys are doing well. I have a problem which has baffled me quite a bit. I have a GA-P55A-UD4P (per the title), updated to the latest bios (F14).  I previously had 4x2GB A-DATA DDR3 1600:

^ --- Two of those kits.

It ran like a champ, and I decided that I wanted to upgrade my RAM. Being a fan of Mushkin since the DDR days, I bought 4x4GB Mushkin DDR3 1333:

I put the new RAM in, ran Memtest86+ and it failed on tests 5 and 8.  I ran Memtest86+ on each stick individually and it passed, I ran two sticks together and one set was fine, but the other set wasn't. Along with the good set, I ran one of the bad, and it failed tests 5 and 8. Both of the bad set did the same thing.

Remember each stick runs fine individually, so I can't narrow it down.

Any ideas?

Hi and welcome to the Gigabyte Forum.

Well a nice little puzzle.

From your testing logic dictates that if the memory modules aren't showing upo faults on their own that they are ok therefore it must be one or more slots that are at fault. Now that doesn't necessarily mean the motherboard because now, don't forget, the memory controller is built into the CPU, so it could be either. You need to mark all the sticks and then you have some time consuming testing to do. ;)

The puzzle gets even more fun, I put the old RAM back in and it passes memtest86+ with flying colors!

Are you setting your own QPI/Vtt and ram voltages?

I think I've replied to you about this at the Mushkin forums, not sure?
