ga-x58a-ud3r audio and usb issues
« on: October 31, 2010, 05:18:10 am »
hi, I guess I'll start with my audio issue.  I cannot get the default windows explorer click sound to make a sound -- either as result of opening a folder in windows explorer or by opening the actual wav file in a media player (vlc, kmplayer, etc.)  I'm not entirely sure if this is a motherboard issue because disabling CMSS-3D on the x-fi control panel fixes this issue, but I dont really consider disabling anything to be a valid solution.  Audio used to have a lot of issues with clicking in games which I found out was due to a high DPC latency, but that was fixed completely by updating the bios to fb11.

However, updating to fb11 created another usb issue.  Rarely but randomly, the power to the keyboard will turn off and reset.  The power on the keyboard turns off, becomes unresponsive, and the whole system slows to a crawl while it reboots the driver.  This whole process lasts about 8sec and only affects the keyboard, not the usb mouse.  Problem occurs pretty much in all cases, during flash games/video, web browsing, 3D gaming, wmv video.  The main reason why I think its a bios issue is because this problem didnt exist prior to updating to fb11.

These are both minor issues, but I'd like to try out the latest beta bios which is fc3 I think.  If someone can send me an english version of that, hopefully that can fix something at least.  To get to this point, I've tried and tested everything possible - most of which can be summarized from http://forum.giga-byte.co.uk/index.php/topic,3103.15.html.  Unfortunately, since I'm using an ATI card, disabling SLI doesnt really apply here.  Also, for what its worth, I used win XP for about a month and everything worked flawlessly except for the fact that it can only run with 3.5GB of ram and directx 9.

tried tweaking everything here, but current settings:
CPU: i7-930 (stock at 2.8ghz, bclk-133)
MOTHERBOARD: ga-x58a-ud3r rev.2.0 (fb11 with currently disabled audio, 1394, usb3 support - tried both on and off)
MEMORY: 4GB A-Data ddr3-1600 (stock settings at 9-9-9-24 in the dual channel modules on board)
OS: win7-64 home premium
SOUND: x-fi xtrememusic (currently using danielk modded drivers)
VIDEO: single ati x5830 on pci-x16-1 using dvi port (stock 800cpu-1000mem, 157-300 in windows)
KEYBOARD: logitech g15 (the original 18 button one with lcd)
MOUSE: logitech mx510
POWER: OCZ 80+ certified 700watts (all voltages are within 0.1v or closer)
*temperatures for everything are fine both under load and idle

EDIT: added revision 2.0 to motherboard specifications

Hi and welcome to the Gigabyte Forum.

You don't say but I take it you have the revision 2.0 motherboard from the BIOS you are running. Try TweakTown Forum in the USA for the latest BIOS updates.

http://forums.tweaktown.com/

I think that maybe you problem with the audio could be down to the card drivers. I take it that the onboard sound is disabled in the BIOS.

Well, I updated the bios to FC3, but unfortunately no luck on fixing the audio issue.  But as I said before, I doubt that issue was motherboard/bios related since disabling CMSS-3D was a workaround.  As for the usb issue, that was a rare random issue that occurred about once every 2-3 days, so it'll take a while to 'verify' that the issue has been resolved.

It's been about a week now since I flashed the motherboard to bios fc3, and I haven't experienced any issues regarding the usb cycling itself.  I'm not sure what changes occurred between fb11 and fc3, but whatever they may be, this issue has been resolved.  Thanks.
