GA-X58A-UD3R network problem

Sorry I should have clarified, the USB keyboard works fine with the BIOS and during boot in all other instances and after I do the "unplug reset". My keyboard has back-lights and they usually turn on with the computer when the USB's get power. But when this problem occurs they don't turn on until the windows login screen.

Your right i never noticed this before, i have a logitec G15 keyboard.

I have the same problem.  The internet adapter is not found and my keyboard(G-15) and mouse(G-5) do not work because the drivers for the 2.0 USB ports on the MB are not installed.  I have the X58A-UD3R rev. 2.0 and Bios FE.  I built the PC about 3 weks ago and this happened twice already.  The easiest thing to do in to power down, disconnect the cord, and after a few minutes repower and restart. I have read this forum and tried everything that was suggested so far.  If anyone knows of a permanent fix for this, please let me know.  Thanks.

There is a known issue with some Logitech keyboards during bootup. Try swapping with another make and see if that makes a difference.

Some new experience from me:
I still have the problem as described in this thread, it appears in one of about 5 starts of the PC.
I switch the HDD controller to AHCI (from native IDE) a when the problem with network adapter occurs (i.e. the network adapter is missing), Windows are not able to boot when I am on AHCI. After "Verifying DMI pool data..." I get the message "Disk read error. Press Ctrl+Alt+Del to restart."
When the network adapter is detected corretly, everything is OK.

The SSD disk which Windows are booting from is connected to SATA 0 of ICH10 controller, so I think that something is making whole Southbridge mad when the network adapter is missing, so more problems can occur: problems with AHCI (as I described), problems with USB ports managed by ICH10,...

I have exactly the same problem with the rev2.0 X58A-UD3R with FB Bios (latest non-beta).

I just realized that I had the same problem but only once with this mobo while running BIOS FC.  I was also fighting memory problems, but all of a sudden, Windows 7 wouldn't find my network connection.  I just plugged a wireless card into the PCI slot, and didn't try to diagnose the problem since I was getting ready to send my mobo to Gigabyte.  When my mobo came back (they said no problem found), the network connection was again working.  Taking the mobo out and putting it back in is probably equivalent (or more) to taking the power off then booting back up.  Geeze, another gremlin, but it's only occurred once so far.

I get the feeling that it is down to the BIOS from what has been said and so probably the only solution is to wait for another BIOS update. It does help to let GGTS know about these problems though so they know what to concentrate their efforts on.

Hello friends.
I have exactly same problem as described mozo. USB and network ports do not work sometimes when I turn on the PC.

On 2/18/2011 Gigabyte has released a new bios version (FF). In the description says only "Support 914 Realtek clock gen". I do not know if this is related with the problem but I updated it. I used the @FLASH but only after I read recommendations to use Qflash. However I had no problem with @BIOS.
Someone already tried this new BIOS?

Sorry for my poor english.

Hi and welcome to the Gigabyte Forum.

You are asking if someone has tried this new BIOS but I thought that you said you had just done the flash yourself ?

Usually a complete shutdown and cold boot will get rid of the problem at least for a while.

Yes, I've updated the bios but I wonder if anyone had the same problem again after upgrading the bios to the latest (FF) version since it has not spent enough time to prove myself.
I know the "unplug reset" solution and I use it but I am looking for a definitive solution.
Tanks for reply.

To be honest I thionk it is probably a problem that is going to have to wait until either a new update comes out for the firmware of the LAN chip or a BIOS update.

Hi some new experience from me:
As some other people wrote, the problem with network adapter sometimes appears together with other problems, such as with USB ports or with disks in AHCI mode (as in my case). So I performed some experiments:

If I changed "Delay for HDD" to 0 seconds in BIOS, the problems occured almost in each start of the computer. The higher value of "Delay for HDD" I set, the lower is the frequency of occurence of these problems. If I set it to 15 secs (which is max available value), the problems occur only in less than 10% of PC starts (its just a guess). But they still occur sometimes...

So I continued in expermionets:

I changed the SATA2 prots which I use for disk drives. Before this change I used these ports:
SATA2_0 for system SSD (OCZ Agility 2, 60GB)
SATA2_1 for data HDD (Seagate Barracuda, 750GB)
SATA2_2 for SONY Optiarc DVD-RW

I changed it to:
SATA2_0 for SSD
SATA2_2 for HDD
SATA2_4 for DVD-RW

Other ports are blank. Looks like that this change also reduced the occurence of the problems rapidly, even when i set the delay for HDD to 0 seconds.

Later I also disabled everything in BIOS what i am not using right now, such as:
eSATA controller
onboard Firewire
GSATA ports

at least the POST is now much faster  :) Maybe it helped a little bit too, but the testing takes a lot of time because the problems appear nondeterministically...

Definitely, the problems are caused by faulty detection of the NIC (but it is not very surprising  :)), because when I disabled the NIC in BIOS
and tested it for few days (with more then 30 starts or restarts of the PC), the problems had never occured.

Now I plan to test it with NIC enabled  but the network cable unpluged (also for at least tens of starts).

It would be good if others who have these problems would do same settings and testing as me, to decide if it really helps...

Firstly has your OCZ SSD had the latest firmware installed ?

What settings have you got for your boot priority ?

Is the SSD set as primary hard drive ?

Try putting the optical drive on another controller's port.

well just to report the problem was not solved by updating the bios version (ff). I started the PC and the network controller was not detected, the worst is that it never happened.
I will disable some devices in the bios as HonzaK suggested and see if that helps.

After this Issue I'll never buy Gigabyte again.  >:(

The Network Port is such a critical item in an office and also at home.
I find it appalling that Gigabyte still leaves this problem unresolved.

At least unplugging the unplugging the power cable trick works, but it's a pain in the rear end booting up and logging in only to find no network is unavailable and then having to do a special fix and reboot again.

I also find it a bit disconcerting that Gigabyte is advising people to open their cases and fiddle around with the insides, especially for newbies that could electrocute themselves if they don't know what they're doing.

Whilst I appreciate your feelings about the actual issue and agree that something should be done to fix it please get your facts right before posting incorrect statements like

as this is certainly not the case. There is no danger to humans from the inside of a computer unless they remove the cover from the PSU.
