GA-P55-USB3: Windows 7 Will Not Install
« on: October 19, 2010, 09:09:52 pm »
I am installing onto a OCZ Vertex 2 SSD Drive.  The Windows install cd can see the drive and format it without a problem.  The drive is installed in the SATA2_0 port and set to IDE mode.  When Windows begin the installation it seems to almost skip over the Copying step and goes right to the Extracting step where it always freezes, screen to black.  I get the same results with a 500GB Western Digital drive.  I have installed this copy of W7 on another machine without any problems.  I have also tried AHCI mode and using the GSATA ports and the results were always the same.

Hi and welcome to the Gigabyte Forum.

You have chosen the best port to install the SSD drive on.

Is the Windows disk a genuine copy?

Is it 32 or 64 bit Windows you are trying to install?

Have you formatted the drive and if so what type?

What BIOS version have you got on the motherboard? and what revision is the board?

- Yes, MSDN copy.
- 64bit Ultimate
- Yes, NTFS.
- BIOS: F6, not sure where to locate revision number?

The revision number will be printed in white on the bottom left side of the board near the slots.
Can you please list all your hardware?

Rev 2.0 for the board.  In addition to what I've already stated hardware wise:

Processor: Intel i5-750t
Memory: PNY DDR3 PC3-10666 2x2GB
Video: GeForce 9500GT

Well you could try updating your BIOS version to F8.
Have you checked to dee if your memory is compatible with your motherboard? Ist it on the QVL of at least one of the manufactures?
I would also advise checking on the OCZ forum/site as I think they had a problem with their firmware on the SSDs  and some motherboards.

I bought the RAM in a rush from Microcenter because my existing DDR3 RAM was damaged during the upgrade process.  In looking at the reviews of this RAM on Newegg I think my next step is to try something new.

There was someone on the OCZ board with a similar problem but the thread never had a resolution.  The drive does have the latest firmware on it and since the Windows 7 install disc was able to see and format the drive I did not think that was the root cause, especially since I had the same problem on a normal 500GB Western Digital drive.

Thanks for the help, I'll keep you posted.

I have the same issue with almost the exact same setup.

I5 750
Nvidia Gforce 460
2 x 2 GB Gskill RAM
2 x Western Digital 6GB 1TB HD in RAID 0 (Also tried stand alone, using smaller partitions, and sata3 ports.)

I am going to look over their memory compatibliity list and see if I can find one local to buy here and swap it out.
