DVD ROM is being recognised in BIOS but not reading data.

Having installed the O/S (Windows 7 32bit) via USB, the PC sees the DVD ROM in the BIOS, and in 'my computer'. When you insert any media, it fails to read it, and then ejects the media when you double click on its' icon, and the pc then informs you to put a disc in the drive.

I tried to boot an O/S from a DVD, without any success either, it just said " INVALID DISK"

I have tried two different drives (one definately works in another pc) and have also tried putting it on two different SATA connections on the MOBO, and have also tried two different leads.

I have 2 x 2Gb RAM sticks, and even tried taking one of them out at a time.

Is there anything else I can do, or do you think it's a faulty MOBO ?

Hi and welcome to the Gigabyte Forum.

Firstly are you using a genuine copy of Windows?

Are you using onboard graphics?

Is your DVD IDE or SATA and which port have you got it connected to?

Genuine Windows..........(Installed Windows 7 though USB & Windows XP disc that failed to load)

On board graphics.........

And DVD is SATA through one of the 6 SATA connections on the board.

I'm not new to pc building.......

......but this is a problem I've not come across before....and have had no help/ideas through any search engine

Right well it helps that you already know what yopu are doing.

Have you swapped data cables with a known good one?

Have you tried using a different power cable to the drive?

Does any light come on or noises of spinning from the drive?
