1055T. 1075T, or 1090T? Decisons, decisions...

1055T @ 2.8 GHz = $179
1075T @ 3.0 GHz = $199
1090T @ 3.2 GHz = $229

They are also offering a $20 gift card for each purchase, so that drops the prices to $159, $179, and $199.

I have the 1055T still new and sealed in the box [I still haven't found the time to begin my new build].

I am wondering if purchasing the 1090T for future proofing would be a logical and economically sound decision.  Is there really all that big of a difference besides the multiplier being unlocked and the 0.4 Ghz increase of speed?  Is it worth the extra $40?

I can sell off my new factory sealed 1055T, before opening the box and purchase a 1090T if there is really that big of a difference.

Finally, any word on AMD's future CPU release dates on their:

Interlagos Opteron (Bulldozer core)
Zambezi (Bulldozer core) [I keep hearing AMD will begin to release this processor within 4 weeks (yes, before Christmas 2010)]
Llano AMD Fusion (K10 core + Redwood GPU)
Ontario AMD Fusion (Bobcat core)

I need some good advice please.

Unlocked mulitplier is just for easier overclocking, but once you start to push past 4.0 GHz it is all a crap shoot, cooling will be the main factor then.  I can not really help you with choosing a new proc.  Personally, if I could return the 1055T for a 1090 BE, I would, but that is because I would want the best at the moment.

As for the new platform, last I have heard was next year sometime, most likely Q1.  However, it is a guess work right now.

my best advice would be to stick with what you have and use the money that you are thinking of spending on a CPU for something else (An SSD if you haven't already got one for example). Yes the 1090T looks good value and if you didn't already have the 1055 I would say go for it but for what you are going to be using your PC for the 1055 is probably more than enough CPU.

As to when the new AMD CPU's will be coming out there is a lot of speculation but no hard facts. I very much doubt it will be this side of Christmas as, if the rumours about the new processors are true, they will need a new socket, AM3+ but there are no signs of any new motherboards being released with this "new" socket. If I were a gambling man I would say we won't see these new processors  for another 4-6 months at the earliest.

Ok, since I rarely overclock, and I cannot return the 1055T for a 1090T, I suppose I should be happy with the 1055T and not look for greener pastures....well at least not yet!

Absic, thanks again for your good advice!  And it is good to hear from you again.  Ok, I will use the 1055T that has been sitting in the corner waving at me for months now.

I am happy to begin the new build tonight [our Thanksgiving Holiday starts tonight for us here...9 consecutive days of no work]!  My wife is visiting her friend for a couple of days so I hope to have 2 days of uninterrupted time to do this build right.

Yes, I did pick up the OCZ Agility 2 last month...the last item I had been waiting to go on sale for this new build.  So after waiting months for the each item to go on sale, gathering important info on how to do the build, and finally getting the time to do the build, I'll be starting tonight after coming home from work...

The 1055 will be plenty of power, and if you truely wanted to you could give it a slight overclock without much problem.  Good luck!

Thanks again for the post.  I would like to try a little overclocking after the system is up and running stable.  Maybe you could share some insights and pointers on how to do it?

I'll post the entire system specs after we get it up and running.  Cooling should be a breeze because I purchased Corsairs's new H70 which has many, many excellent reviews.  I'll be putting everything into Coolmaster's Storm Sniper with all fans loaded and ready to go.

The only problem I can foresee is DM might get a little depressed because I did not use an Intel processor but a couple of pints of dark ale should alleviate that problem rather quickly...

Up, up, and away from Intel and into the magical world of AMD!
