x58a-ud3r boot from cd

x58a-ud3r boot from cd
« on: November 29, 2010, 05:24:30 pm »
Just built this computer using this motherboard, everything comes up fine except there is never an option to boot from cd.  But will always try to boot from hdd which is sata.

Cd drive connected with IDE.  It is the only IDE device in the computer.  Drive is set to master.  Have tried 2 different drives both work in other computers.  Selecting to boot from cd drive from the boot menu does not work either.  I've set it to boot from cd->floppy->hdd in the boot menu and still only tries to boot from the hdd.  Unfortunately I just don't have a sata drive handy at the moment otherwise I'd try that one.

Does anyone have an idea of what could be wrong?

Hi and welcome to the Gigabyte Forum.

What mode do you have the controller set to for the optical drive?

Honestly I'm not 100% sure.  I'd just gone into the bios and set it to load optimized defaults.  And under no options do I see anything referring to a cd rom drive or optical drive.

The drive is connected to the GSATA2 controller and if you have set this to AHCI that could be your trouble or if you have disabled this controler.

All settings in the integrated peripheral section are set to IDE.  The GSATA options are set to Enabled and IDE.

Have you checked the power and data cables to the drive?

The data cable is the only other thing I can think of aswell.  But as usually boards only come with 1 ide cable.  So I'm stuck waiting till my buddy gets off work to get another.  I came here just to see if it was possible I was missing anything small.  Seems we've both come to the same thought.  Thank you.  I'll post back once I get some more information on the issue.
