Gigabyte P55A-UD4 with i7 870 boot problems

Hi guys, I have a little problem on my system. My specs: Gigabyte P55a-UD4 Rev 2.0, Core i7 870, Mushkin Red Line 2*2 GB 7-7-7-18, Sapphire Radeon HD 6870. Running on Windows 7 Ultimate x64.

The problem is Windows 7 hangs at the starting screen if I have processor Turbo mode on and C1E enabled in bios. With EIST and turbo enabled, it works great.

As a matter of interest do you get the same problem if you set it to Extreme mode?

I expect that it is something to do with the fact that your memory is working at such tight timings. I can't really see the correlation between Turbo mode and the power saving options though.

I think you understood me wrong, I wasn't talking about RAM mode (that is set to turbo by default) but about Inter Turbo boost. When it's enabled concurrently with the C1E, the computer freezes at windows startup. I tried loosening the memory timings and even disabled XMP but nothing changed. When I have EIST and C1E enabled with no turbo boost it woorks fine. WEhen I have turbo and EIST enabled it works fine as well. When I enable turbo and C1E it freezes (so does when all three are enabled).
When the computer freezes a short strange sound can be heard I think its coming from the HDD (Seagate Barracuda 320 GB SATA 2, about 4 years old). Coiuld the disk be the issue here? Im planning to bubuy a new one (SSD) but right now my budget doesnt allow me to do it. Oh and one more thing - after the computer freezes and I put the settings back to where they work, I get a "chacking disk for consistency" screen and it scans my HDD. I really don't see how the HDD could have anything to do with it but is it possible?

Thanks for the extra information and yes it is possible that it could be a disk problem but probably not in the way you are thinking. In the BIOS there should be the option to put a dleay on the boot while the HDD initialises. Normally it says HDD Delay and is settable from 0 - 15 sec. Try a 5 sec delay and see if that cures the problem.

I have just checked and it is mentioned on page 51 of your manual as Delay for HDD

I tried setting HDD delay to 5 secs and it still does the same thing. The disk clicks and a strange sound comes out of the PSU (I think, but its really hard to determine). I should probably get a new HDD, or could this be PSU related. I dont know how though since Turbo + EIST work like a chard.

I think it is unlikely to be PSU related and if your hard drive is making funny noises it sounds like it might be on the way out anyway. Yopu could try increasing the delay up to the maximum and just see if tthat makes a difference.
