How do you like my new AMD build?

Hi all!

Well, I thought I would post some pics of my new AMD build.

First pic is when I had the Corsair H70 rotated in a manner that prohibited the side of the case from attaching!

Second pic is after I rotated the H70 and everything fit much better!

I'll post some more pics after I install the new sound card and other goodies.

Please let me know what you think and please feel free to give me more advice, suggestions, etc.

Special thanks to Absic and DM for helping me choose the right components and put it all together in a successful and stable manner!

And maybe, just maybe throw everything into a HAF 932 if I can find all the components needed to mod it!

Very nice Soar! In general I would say good job, but even though you have kept the wiring tidy you could have hidden it better especially the front panel cables could have been routed behind the motherboard plate and then just brought out at the bottom to connect. Apart from the Excellent!!

Man I wish I had a modular PSU like you . As it is, one of the left over cables is just laying there on the bottom of the case. I'll probably try and hide it later on but there's hardly any space left behind the MB.

Anyway, hard to say anything more. Except for the front panel cables everything is hidden as well as possible. At least I think so .

Thanks DM.  Hey, I never would have thought about running those FP wires behind the MB.  I'll be certain to do that on future builds or on this rig if/when I take it a part to service it.

Yes, I had the main wire harness hidden behind the back plate then coming up along side the connection slot but it caused too much trouble behind the MB.  After reading your good advice, I think I could have hidden many of the wires much more cleverly!  Example: all those USB/Firewire cables could also be easily hidden on the back side of the case!

Ok, let me ask this question: do the best builds have nearly all wires hidden?  Is that the goal?

Please let me know.  Perhaps for air circulation purposes, the less exposed wires the better?

Thanks for your words of encouragement!  I will work on hiding the wires better next time around!  For sure!

Modular PSU's are dropping in price like lead.  If you watch carefully, you can pick up awesome combo deals.  I've done this repeatedly and have often been able to pick up a high quality 650w+ modular PSU for under $35.  This price is achieved after I sell the other component that was included in the combo deal.

I am not sure where you live...but these types of deals fly by nearly daily here in the USA.

The last one I found was the XFX Extreme Edition XXX 650w Modular PSU [made by Seasonic] combo'ed with the XFX GTS 250.  The combo deal was for $95 AMIR.  So after I sold the XFX GTS 250, the XFX 650 watt PSU was actually free.  I found this deal on New Egg on 8/19/2010.

The two Enermax 720w PSU's I found on a super sale for around $45 each AMIR.  They retailed for more than $200 at the time.

Deals like this occur often.  I hope this helps!

Pushing cables behind gives a neat look. It allows quicker access to parts in case you need to clean or change. It helps in better air flow.

Thanks for the info.  I will tuck all those loose cables behind the MB next time I open the case and work on it.

Your choice of AMD will make Absic glad  , but DM sad .

AMD has always stood with me through thick and thin. It chugged on happily to whatever I threw at it and yes it  is less expensive than an Intel.
With X4/X6 BE unlocked sky is the limit

I am glad to hear the good news on the AMD's.  I have been nearly 100% Intel for the last 10 years.  This is the first time I seriously got into AMD and I am very happy with it so far!

I have an AMD X4 965 BE that I never opened.  So, it is a good chip and can overclock a lot?  Is it better/faster than the 1055T?

I am still debating what to do with this 965 BE.  I have considered replacing my Intel i-5 750 with this 965 BE but when I read the comparisons, there did not seem to be that much of a difference...

The Intel gave me so much trouble during the initial build that I wanted to throw it out the window!

It has settled down now and appears to have become stable...but I still have some concerns about it...

Anyway, you sure have a nice rig there at you are flying at over 4.2 Ghz?  I can only say WOW!  And read up that the H70 really kicks in well when people begin to reach into the higher OC'in realms!

I live in India.The mean temp is 26 deg C and 35 to 38 during summers

Wow!  babdi, those are great speeds you have achieved there.  Yes, I fully understand the weather on the Indian sub-continent [I worked on and off there for 8 years in a row].  I remember during a couple of summers it was up to 49-50 Celsius out in the rural areas for days at a time with no fans and no A/C because the power would go out.  It was quite challenging for me.  It was the very first time I ever had to eat salt tabs and drink several liters of pani every day just to survive.  The mangoes made it a little better!  Those were the best mangoes in the entire world to me...

Which part of India do you reside if I may ask?  We met so many nice people there!

Good choice on the Corsair H70.  I have one too and really like it.  No maintenance, no risk of leakage, and it does the job well!

All joking apart I have tried almost the same idea but the trouble is once you try and cool to below ambient tempertures you get all sorts of problems with condensation and I would imagine in a climate like that it would be even worse than normal.

I never thought of that, but it sure makes sense...especially in monsoon season when the humidity if very high too.  So sorry, Babdi, please forget my last suggestion!  We'd hate to hear you suddenly experienced unwanted fireworks in that nice new build of yours!

Great job babdi!  I understand your situation there.  I like your idea of H70 set up as exhaust in your environment.  It is the correct way to do it.  Because we get a bit cold here in the winter, I may set my H70 as an intake rather than exhaust simply because in the winter, the room temp is lower than the case temp.

I may then need to switch the fans from intake to exhaust in the summer because my room temps can exceed 90-100 F at times.
