X58A-UD3R rev. 1 backup BIOS recovery fail

I have a X58A-UD3R rev. 1; I've tried flashing the bios to a newer version from F5 to F6 or F7 (using @BIOS, failing, then using Q-flash, failing, and now we're here).  The problem that I'm having is that the backup BIOS isn't recovering correctly.  The splash screen comes up, the checksum error comes up, the screen says something to the effect of 'verifying backup bios', 'writing backup to main...', then the thing just sits there.  I've waited hours and nothing.  I've tried everything that I can think of to no avail.  Any help would be appreciated.

Hi and welcome.

I would say that it sounds like you might have corrupted both of your BIOS chips. If that is correct then you have  no option but to do an RMA back to Gigabyte. Did you not realise it's not a good idea to use the @BIOS utility ?

Make sure by following the outlined procedure that follows exactly. It might take a few attempts.

You can kick in the backup BIOS by shutting down the PSU from the wall, then hold down your case power button in and then turn on the power supply button, a few seconds later the board will start, shut off the power supply then.   Then you can turn on the power supply again and power up the board normally and DualBIOS will kick in.

I wasn't too excited to use @bios in the first place.  I did get things back to normal after reverting to the backup that time.  That was about a week before this current situation where Q-Flash failed.  One doens't really have anything to do with the other.  Basically, my problem seems to be that trying to flash the bios with q-flash somehow not only failed to update my main bios, but fried the backup too

As far as I am aware that scenario wouldn't actually be possible but I think it is more likely that @BIOS corrupted the Main BIOS when used and then the corrupt version got copied to the Backup BIOS.  Anyway the problem is the same however it happened. Have you tried the BIOS repair that I suggested ?   I would contact GGTS and also ask about a RMA while you are about it.

I have inquired about an RMA.  Any idea on how long it may take or how much it may cost?  I'm in the USA, btw.

I have tried the reset procedure that you outlined before, but I'll try more when I get home.

Update March 7

Amazingly, against all hope, I was actually able to get into the bios by pressing the delete key after posting.  I tried to flash the bios again with q-flash (several times), but it doesn't seem to be working.  I'll try to get another method of flashing going to see how far I can get there.  Maybe the board doesn't like the USB stick that I'm using or something.  I'll see if I can't make a CD or use a different USB stick.  Thanks thus far for the help.

Yes certainly try another USB stick. Probably best a low capacity one up to 2GB or less. Some boards don't seem to be compatible with some drives. Also make sure that Legacy USB is enabled in the BIOS for it to work.

I posted a reply for you tonight on this over at TT forums.    It actually sounds to me like you corrupted the backup BIOS, since it's not recovering to the main one properly (Or main could be damaged, but that's not too likely).   Are you 100% SURE when you were playing around shorting BIOSes that you shorted ONLY the MAIN one?
