Greetings all,
I am trying to assemble a new PC (for a friend) with the following components:
GA-X58A-UD9 mobo received with BIOS F2, updated to F4
i7 980X CPU
16GB DDR3 RAM
Seagate Barracuda Xt 2TB SATA 6GB/s HDD
Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit
AOC e2243fw full HD LCD monitor (1920x1080)
and the problem device(s)
two Inno3d Geforce 6800GT 256MB graphics cards with mVidia drivers for Win 7 64 bit v8.17.12.6099. They are labelled BIOS v5.40.02.36.09.
The latter are a legacy from the previous system, to be used on a temporary basis until funds allow a major update to 3 or 4 way Crossfire/SLi configuration.
I have two problems with the gfx cards.
One of them appears to have a memory fault, in that when the splash screen is displayed there are dots spread over the screen in a regular pattern, and once into the BIOS screens there are dots and incorrect characters - I've put this one aside.
The second card is ok during boot sequence/BIOS screens and in Windows Safe mode, but in Windows it makes the system very slow, and the colour depth is all wrong. Although set to 1920x1080x32 bit, the colours look like they're only 8 bit. Opening applications is very slow and and after an age of "loading resources" usually results in the app "Not Responding" - even Solitare.
With both fitted and a SLi bridge installed, booting to Windows just results in an unresponsive black screen. BIOS and Safe mode are ok.
All these problems go away if I install a Radeon X300 256MB card instead of the 6800GT.
About the only thing I can think of is updatng the 6800GT BIOS.
I would appreciate any comments or advice.
Thanks,
BNP
