GA-X58A-UD3R CPU temp LED and clicking sound
« on: January 13, 2011, 04:27:02 am »
First time here, great forum BTW. Looked through ~200 recent posts and have not seen this mentioned…
I just installed the new and very popular GA-X58A-UD3R (rev 2.0). Running windows 7 (64 bit) as best as I can tell fine except for one unusual thing that has me stumped.
If I run a core intensive program (e.g. Google earth) which raises the CPU core temp, the CPU temp LED’s come on red, green… which I assume is fine BUT as each LED lights up I hear a slight click sound (like a relay making contact). It’s always 1 click per LED. The click occurs when each separate LED comes on and again when it goes off.
Are there relays on this board? If so I worry about them “pitting/corrosion etc.” over time.
I cannot tell if it’s the motherboard or the power supply (GX 650W).
Has anybody else seen/heard this with this motherboard or any other motherboard for that matter.

Hi and welcome to the Gigabyte Forum.

There is nothing to worry about it is perfectly normal. There is always a quiet clicking sound as the POST continues to check through it's sequence.

But what is source of the clicking. Is there a relay on the motherboard.

Forgot to mention, these sounds occur during) and after POST, whenever there is a major change in the power going to the CPU. For example (as I said above) if I load Google Earth – a CPU intensive program.

There are no relays on the motherboard, so no need to worry about that. Possibly it could be the PSU that is clicking.
