GA-X58A-UD7 : second graphic card not detected
« on: January 15, 2011, 09:16:45 am »
Hi,

I am using ny GA-X58A-UD7 without problem for months. My graphics card, Nvidia GTX 460 , is connected on the PCIe 16X-1 slot. I have two monitors connected. So far all good. Then I needed a third monitor and then bought a second graphics card, Nvidia GeForce 210 and installed it on the PCIe16X-3 slot. But this second card is not detected. To make sure my graphic card is not faulty, I removed the main graphic card and left the second on slot 16X-3. The graphics card is detected. Then I removed my GF 210 and put my GTX 460 and put it on slot 2, still working fine.
So I do not understand what happens when both cards are installed at the same time.
Th GF210 has no external power supply so I wonder if the mother board power supply is enough for both cards.
Any help will be welcomed.

Thanks

So Device Manager, Display adapters, does not show the 2nd card?

Have you tried to place the 2nd card in the last PCIe slot?

The board supplies plenty of power, as my UD5, with 2 460's attest to. (edit: never mind, my cards supply their own power)

The cards should be in two of the PCIE x16 slots and not the x16 and the next slot which is x8 and shares bandwidth.
Also the cards need to be connected directly to the PSU for their power. The PCIE slots won't be enough.

it is a very common problem for a power supply to come up short on newer video cards; in some cases each of 2 cards will require 2 - 12v rails.

Or even better we've found is to use a PSU with a single 12v rail but it must be of good quality and size. So manyn people try and skimp on the power supplies to run their systems.
