Problems with new MA790X-UD3P 1.0 mobo
« on: January 16, 2011, 03:03:20 pm »
Hi all!!

Here's my current config:

MA790X-UD3P 1.0 (F7B bios)
Phenom 9650 X4
Sapphire HD4850 1GB DDR3
4*1 GB DDR2 800Mhz
X-FI Xtremegamer soundcard
2*500GB HDD
Corsair 650TX PSU
Windows 7 Ultimate x64

I bough a new motherboard last week, and I have two strange promblem with it:

The first problem:

My computer crashing 1 or 2 times per day , with screen freeze.

I checked the event viewer, and I saw this:
Kernel Power Error 41:

2nd problem:

My video performance degrased about 20-40% with this new motherboard when PCIe 2.0 at PEG with default settings. When I setting to 1.0, everthing ok, video performance betten then ever.

So this new motherboard is faulty?

Thanks!
Sorry for my poor english!

Hi there,

These kind of problems can be really tricky to solve.
The first thing I would advise you to do is to run Memtest and check that your RAM Modules are OK as a faulty module is the most likely cause of your trouble.
Remember, when all else fails a cup of tea and a good swear will often help! It won't solve the problem but it will make you feel better.

I found this in duplex secure forums:

"Usage of newer SPTD layer versions on Gigabyte systems with Gigabyte Energy Saver installed could lead to hard system hangs during virtual drive usage (e.g. Alcohol, Daemon Tools).
This issue is currently under investigation. As workaround it is suggested to end/close Gigabyte Energy Saver."

Daemon tools installed on my system of course with SPTD 1.76

Hi,
I am puzzled..Did you just replace the motherboard  from a previous working system or did you reinstall win7 on the new motherboard?..
I regret the dumb question, but unless I failed to see where it was mentioned it would make a huge difference in helping you with your
problem..

Hello!

Yes I replaced my older GA-MA57SLI-S4 2.0 with MA790X-UD3P 1.0 motherboard. I uninstalled Daemon tools and SPTD from my system, and no more kernel power errors.

Only the my PCIe problem left, no problem when running at 1.0 @ 16x speed. At default Bios setting (2.0 @ 16x speed) my video card performance is very slow. 3Dmark Vantage GPU score at 1.0@16x :7245 , GPU score at 2.0 @16: 5074 , and I don't know what is causing slower performance at higher bus speed...

Regards
Zoli

I think it would be a good idea to format your drive and do a fresh install of Windows as you should have done in the first place.

I have a fresh install of windows 7 x64 Ultimate on formatted drive. Memtest is ok, after 3 hours of stress testing.
The Kernel power problem retourned again, so I unistalled Catalyst Control Center 2 Preview and VGA drivers. I thing It's very early beta and maybe unstable.
