GA-870A-UD3 issues

Hi,

I am at my whits end. I just built a new system with the following:

Motherboard: GA-870A-UD3 Rev 2.1 with Bios ver F4
Processor: AMD Phenom X6 1090T 3.2G AM3
Memory: 2x G-Skill F3-10666CL9D-8GBRL
Video: Gigabyte GV-R685D5-1GD R
Harddisk: 640 Gb Western Digital Sata3
Rosewill Gaming Case
Rosewill 750W PS

This is my problem

I put everything together and powered system up. Started no problem. Installed Windows 7 Ultimate x64 with no problems.

Started the automatic updates and about 10 minutes into this the system kinda stopped working. All fans were stil working but no video output and system would not power down any way except unplugging from outlet.

Tried numerous times to start up. All fans (including CPU fan) come on but no video output or Post beeps.

Started looking on the internet then after about 30 minutes tried to start up and it booted. Got into Bios settings and left it running with no problems. Rebooted into Windows 7 and bam...same problem again.

I was able to do this a couple of times and now it just powers up like I stated before but doesnt really do anything.

I have reseated all components, removed them and tried to boot but with no avail.

Please help me

Hi and welcome to the Gigabyte Forum.

The first thing to do would be to clear the CMOS completely.

Remove the power cable from the mains supply and then press the power switch on the case for a few seconds just to drain any residual energy in the PSU capacitors.

Once done remove the motherboard battery for at least ten minutes before replacing it.
 
Next plug back into the mains supply and boot.
 
You will now need to enter the BIOS by pressing DEL and load Opimised BIOS Defaults.

Make any other changes to the BIOS settings to suit your self and then press F10 to save and exit.

Hi,
I have the same board as you do and I have noticed and written about the North Bridge temperatures..I am not saying that is your problem but at least see if the NB Heat sink is flat and tight against the chip..I have had to blow a fan on mine as the heat soared to the mid 70's..
The fact that it first worked makes me think of a possible heat problem..

I know you said there were no beeps but have you even got a buzzer installed?

ok if u can get this thing to post u need to go into bios,
go into MB Intelligent Tweaker(M.I.T.)
make sure u running ram at correct voltage ie 1.66 (for 1.65v ram etc)
then theres a voltage setting called CPU NB VID Control
set to +0.1v or 0.2v if u want to run 1600 ram and you should get 1.2 or1.3v and enjoy a stable build
many thanks to my mate mike for pointing this out after months of frustration and 1 x dead board that took weeks to RMA
also i think there should be mosfet coolers but thats personal preferencei'd
im currently running 1600 cl 7,8,7,20 ram and stable as now
FYI im running an amd phenom II x4 3.4ghz 125w @stock (for now,) ati hd 5770 and a raid 0 boot drive

how about this memory  and the 870, i want to run them at 1600mhz a friend is currently running well with no issues with gskill ripjaws at 1600mhz

The issues with running RAM above 1333MHz are now well documented and if you insist on running your RAM above this speed then there could be problems, of course, a lot depends on your choice of CPU and RAM. It is not just the speed of the RAM but also the amount, remember if you fill all the slots that the CPU can struggle at faster RAM Speeds.

Yes I too would agree with absic here and if the manufacturer (AMD) says that it doesn't recommend running the memory at more than 1333 MHz for fear of burning out the memory controller on the CPU then I would be inclined to take notice. Obvoiusly if you have money and chips to burn, then your pyre.
