Hi runn3R... please look into this MARVELL SATA3 problem... customers are waiting and would like to know the stance of Gigabyte.

(...) How many Gigabyte staffs that moderate this forum? So far I only see runn3R's replies. If it's only runn3R who is in-charge of this forum, then we can imagine how busy he is. However, we really hope that runn3R will spend little time on this issue and at least tell the forumers whether they've the similar problem or not.

Yes I am alone (except Rui who answers notebook's questions) and quite busy indeed especially that I have also other duties except for this forum...

Can we treat this forum as one of the official Gigabyte technical support channel?

I think you will find that this is an Official Gigabyte Forum that is watched over by them, but it is not an "Official" Tech Support Site. Runn3r is the Forum Moderator and works for Gigabyte, also there are a few other Forum members who work for Gigabyte.

But the vast majority of the members on this forum are just Gigabyte end-users, trying to solve any problems they encounter or trying to help others by offering advice from their own experiences.

Exactly. Official technical support site is GGTS (GIGABYTE Global Technical Service):
http://www.giga-byte.co.uk/support-downloads/technical-support.aspx
or just:
http://ggts.gigabyte.com.tw/
P.S. Some sales and marketing questions can also be asked there.

Yes, absic115 is exactly right and even though it is designated as "official" and is watched over by runn3R (the forum moderator and the only one paid by Gigabyte)

Quite honestly I haven't seen any response from the manufacturer regarding the lack of support for what is advertised as SATA3. There is absolutely no way that I can get four times the speed of SATA2 inRAID0as the sales pitch is so fond of saying.

I do think that it's time that runn3R gave an official company statement regarding their intentions of putting this matter right. That's your que runn3R ;)

OK, as I promised earlier in other topic (http://forum.giga-byte.co.uk/index.php/topic,2336.0.html) I have already started looking into this issue and I will reply soon. I will try to do it based on FIFO rule so this topic will be probably the first one: http://forum.giga-byte.co.uk/index.php/topic,1587.0.html
ZX-S & C64 are still my favourites ;-)

for me i use not Sata3 disks but i have only tested SATA2 performance with :

1 - capatibility to use the 2 ports with my 2 * HPM enclosures with 4 * 1 TO disks SATA2

problem i can use only one ( HighPoint RR62x or RR64x can use 2 ports multiplier )

2 - capatibility with RAID --> RAID5 is impossible but Marvell documentation report no problem ( that is an add-on ?? )

3 - for me speed is good as ICH10R and RR62x HighgPoint not difference

****************************

Same enclosure with 4 * disks

TEST1 : RR622 HighPoint with 88SE9128

TEST2 : Port SATA3 88SE9128 / GA-X58A-UD5

TEST3 : Port INTEL ICH10R

TEST4 : SATA2 Gen2 Marvell 88SX7042

http://img710.imageshack.us/i/88sx7042.jpg/

TEST5 : Port JMicron JMB363

http://img696.imageshack.us/i/jmicron.jpg/

***************************************************************************

for SATA3 test you can test with new firmware

SP1213  ( find to IOISATA site or STATION-DRIVERS )

http://www.ioi.com.tw/products/proddetail.aspx?CatID=106&HostID=2039&ProdID=1060118

http://www.station-drivers.com/page/marvell.htm

***

make a USB bootable key

place / extract zip file , run after go -v ( for view ) , make attention because the autoload is very important

** if you modify this in abnormal condition , you can have a motherboard without functionnality

and only solution is to  unsolder the SPI flash eeprom , and reprogramming with SPI flash programmer and re solder *

***

for restore old  version you have SP1208 to staton-driver site

***

IMPORTANT : to in no case i could not be responsible for your bad update

en francais : je ne saurai être responsable de votre mauvaise mises a jour

Test with the new firmware Marvell 1.0.0.1029
******************************************************

Before WITH :

1 - IOISATA 88SE9128 PCI-e CARD ( RAID option )

2 – GIGABYTE GA-X58A-UD5 same port 88SE9128 same firmware same problem …

Same enclosures ( two box with port multipler with 4 * disks ) --> ONLY 7 disks detected by WINXP

BUT MRU detect 8 disks !!!!

**********************************************

With the new firmware 1.0.0.1029

1 - I have only one port multiplier box detected ( the 2 * box connected ) !!!

2 - disks are with numbers 2 , 3 , 4 , 5 ( and not as before 0 , 1 , 2 , 3 and 4 , 5 , 6 , 7 )
same with MRU

a new disk number BUG !!

Not sure of my "firmware" version but...
My current version of the Marvell SATA 6G Controller Win7 64 bit driver is 1.0.0.1047 (9/30/2010).  Give that one a try?

Marvell firmware 1.0.0.1029 is a part of GA-P67A new motherboard ( BIOS found to station-drivers.com )

Use also new Intel(R) RAID for SATA - v10.1.0.1008 BIOS

I am running 4 Corsair SSDs in raid O on the Intel controller and have 2 WD 3G drives in Raid 0 on the Marvel controller and have not had a problem with the Marvel at all.

Optical drives are on the G-SATA ports

I have a Rev 1 board with the latest BIOS and all is well.

Nice setup richard. It should really fly. How long have you been running the WD Blacks on the Marvell ports?

***********************************

I have found for use the new INTEL Option ROM  with my GA-X58A-UD5 and add-on HighPOint RR622 ( CBROM32 )

At first time i replace with CBROM32  AHCI ( option rom is renamed as ICHAHCI.ROM ) RAID ( renamed RAID_OR.BIN ) and Marvell 9128 version 1029

also GRAID.BIN with new version 1003

I flash and after reboot i cannot see my HighPoint BIOS ( not anough space for OptionRom ) --> normal

I look in BIOS and I use copy option in BIOS for copy new Marvell BIOS to the add-on EEPROM

I reboot --> flash start

I reboot for start my OS

After i edit M9123FW.BIN and i replace in M9123FW.BIN all bytes 10 000 to 16 9FF with FF and i save

I replace this new optionROM with CBROM32

I flash , i reboot and fine i can see my RR622 HighPoint BIOS

**

Pierre

That is exactltly as old BIOS F6C which not use Marvell BIOS ( region 10000 to ... )  in BIOS but only in the separate EEPROM

I am not having any problems with the SATA 3 ports. I have 2 WDs in Raid0 and they work great

My problem is with the USB 3 ports.

If I could get them to work I would be quite happy with the board

A lot of the problems with USB3 ports are only just starting to come to light due to the fact that there was a distinct shortage of devices on the market to make full use of USB3 until recently. Even then quite often it is something small like a badly fitting plug or the external device is faulty.

I checked my external device on an AMD system that also has USB3 and all worked fine.

At first I thought it might be my front connectors so I went straight to the connectors on the back and it still does not work.

I am getting ready to RMA the board.

Edit: My USB3 Device is a 2.5" HDD enclosure holding an SSD. I also have plugged my USB2 external drive into the USB3 ports and it works fine... It seems to be only the USB3 drive that does not work. My USB3 drive works fine when plugged into the USB2 ports.

This is the device I am using.

Well I don't see any particular reason for it not to work in this system if it works ok in another. Make sure that your BIOS is up to date and the USB3 is enabled in the BIOS but apart from that it should work. :-\
