Gigabyte GA-X58A-UD3R New build. No power, won't boot up!
« on: January 19, 2011, 01:23:02 am »
Hi,

I assembled my first new pc pushed the button and it won't boot up.
When I connect the power cable and turn on the power, the clr_CMOS light comes on at the back and when I press the power button in the front panel, I get the green and yellow LED lights (Next to to RAM slots to the right).
I have installed the rams on the 3 white slots, hdd is plugged into blue intel sata port0,dvd sata drive in blue intel sata port 5.
Also have the 8pin and 24pin cpu power plugged in. I used all the brass stand offs underneath the mb.
PSU is brand new and it mustn't be faulty.
I took out to mb battery for 30minutes and tried again but same symptoms.
I want to know the root cause of the problem why it is not booting up. Fan is not spinning at all.. no sound of power at all.
When I press the power on button from the front panel I see the blink of the red light then green and yellow LED stays on to the right side of the RAM slots. Also ctrl_CMOS light is on at the back. I do not have the VGA card installed as I haven't bought one yet.

Samsung SATA 22x Black DVD RW
Lian-Li PC-8NB Tower Case
Seagate SATA 2TB HDD

A few questions first - I apologize if you have done these already:
Correct me if I am wrong, You have everything connected except for the video card?  I take it you are not hearing any POST beeps when you turn on the system? (onboard speaker connected?)  Is the fan on your CPU cooler spinning?  Have you checked to make sure you have the front case buttons, mainly the reset button, connected correctly?

That's ok.
Yes I got everything connected except for the Video card. I'm not hearing any POST beeps when I turn on the system. Onboard speaker is not connected. Fan is not spinning. I checked the front case buttons connected properly but I'm not 100% sure which side is positive and negative as it doesn't say. So I tried both sides obviously but still no signs of power.

Ur problem might be that u hv not got a video card in, first l would try a card in ur system first sometimes when certain things are not connected properly ornot at all the system will not boot or do anything.

Hi

Firstly I think your problem might well be due to a short to earth from the motherboard. How many standoffs did you install in total?

Your PSU is on the low side as well depending on what graphics card you intend to install.

Hey.. problem solved guys.

It was actually the unnecessary fan plugged on the mb.
I pulled it out and it started powering up well.
Had nothing to do with the VGA card not being installed.

Now everything is good to go, I will grab one today and start installing everything.

Good I am glad that you found the culprit. It is distressing when you have just built up a new system and it doesn't work. ;)
