Have you checked the Windows Power Saving settings too? to make sure that they are not in conflict.

Yeah, I've checked everything.  I don't say that lightly.  I've gone through several different tutorials about managing Hibernation and ensured that all the power settings and registry values are correctly set.

When I select hibernate, the screens darken and the disk activity light gets busy -- indicating to me, that WIn7 is saving the current "state" info to the hard drive prior to shutting down.  But then, it never shuts down.

So, as a test, I left my machine on at home, with it set to automatically hibernate after 2 hours, and will check tonight to see if that worked.  If it did, that just means it takes it a LONG TIME to actually hibernate.  If it didn't, I'm stumped.

I know that you CAN hibernate with Win7 -- because my old desktop did this and my current Tablet PC also does this.

I would suggest then that it could be a TSR (Terminate and Stay Resident) program that is stopping the system from shutting down. I would advise checking all your running processes etc prior to trying to go into hibernation.

Well unfortunately, I'm stumped!!

Left the machine on all day.  Was set to hibernate after 2 hours.  Went home and the screens were dark, but the machine was still on.  So, it's not a matter of waiting long enough for it to shut off.

I'll check the TSRs, that's likely a problem.

Another possibility is the video drivers -- but I have ATI HD video and need the drivers in place.

Update:  Discovered by experimenting, that the board does Sleep, just not Hibernate.

That's close enough for what I want to do -- avoid cold rebooting every time I start up the machine.

Well it might not be a complete fix but at least it is a workaround that does what you require.
