GA-MA790FXT-UD5P: Problem updating BIOS
« on: February 02, 2011, 10:23:40 pm »
Hey,

Have had some problems with my computer that i think are BIOS related, therefore i thought it would be a good idea to try and update it to the latest non beta version.
Followed the instructions here: http://forum.giga-byte.co.uk/index.php?PHPSESSID=b7b3694dfc87dec6a35c4587eb57270b&/topic,2441.0.html

My problem is that my usbstick wont show up in the "Update Bios from drive". The only things listed there are Floppy A and Floppy B, both are empty and can not be opened. Any idea of what i can do to fix it?

Motherboard: GA-MA790FXT-UD5P
BIOS version: F6
Processor: AMD Phenom II x4 955 Black Edition

You need "Legacy USB Storage Detect" enabled in the Integrated Peripherals Page of the BIOS.
1) GA-Z97X-Gaming 7, G3258,
2) GA-990FXA-UD3 Rev. 1.1, FX-8350
3) GA-AM1M-S2P, Sempron 3850 Kabini

Yeah, enabled that but it didn't make any difference.

Hi,

Make sure that your USB Stick is formatted in FAT32 on a PC not MAC  and, if possible use one under 4GB in size. Copy the BIOS update file to the USB Stick.
Disable Floppy Drives in BIOS
Shutdown the PC and plug the USB Stick into one of the USB ports on the motherboard's back panel.
Restart the PC with the USB plugged in and hit the "END" key to go straight into QFlash the USB stick will probably show up as an HDD.

Try that and let us know if you still have problems.
Remember, when all else fails a cup of tea and a good swear will often help! It won't solve the problem but it will make you feel better.

The only other thing to do is make a bootable CD with the BIOS files on the disk and then you can just boot from that rather than the USB pendrive as some Gigabyte boards seem reluctant to see some drives.

So, I disable floppy drives in BIOS and tried again. Seems as the usbstick show up as Floppy A, when i try to open it BIOS tells me that the drive aint formatted and so i cant open it.
I went into windows again and formatted the usb and downloaded the update again.
Still getting the error the the usb aint formatted.

Gonna try to do it with a CD tommorow as i got no free cds.

Thanks

Are you sure that the USB drive didn't show up as a hard drive as that is more normal?
