GA-890FXA-UD5 PCI slot problem

GA-890FXA-UD5 PCI slot problem
« on: February 08, 2011, 09:05:51 am »
Hi there :)

I recently bought a brand new GA-890FXA-UD5.

Problem is, I installed in its PCI slot a Xonar D1 soundcard, and it just won't get "alive". Tried every single other things to do, such as to put a LAN card in the PCI slot,  -obviously- not giving any life signs either.

I've tried the following :

        Idea :            Result :

Brand new PSU >> [X]   PSU was 750w TheralTake
Brand new CPU >> [X]   Phenom II X6 1055T
Brand new GPU >> [X]   EAH6970 DCII/2DI4S/2GD5
Brand new RAM>> [X]   Corsair 4GB-kit
Reset CMOS     >> [X]
Battery remove>> [X]
+ Any idea that I could think on.
+ NO overclocking was ever tried to be done.

Conclusion A. ; PCI slot dead ?
Conclusion B. ; Do I have to turn the PCI slot on ? ( which would be silly, but well yea~ )
Conclusion C. ; Please post your Idea :) Thank you.

I'd hate to RMA, who'd have thought that a new can be, "dead" .

Hi there,

I'm running this motherboard and I have a Delta 1010 PCI soundcard installed without any issue.

Which revision number is your board?
What BIOS version are you running?
What are your full system specs?
What OS are you using?
Apart from the problem with the PCI slot are you having any other issues with the the motherboard?

Sorry for so many questions but a better idea of your setup will help with fault finding.
Remember, when all else fails a cup of tea and a good swear will often help! It won't solve the problem but it will make you feel better.

When you installed the soundcard did it show up in device manager? If the answer to that is yes I assume you have installed the drivers and they installed correctly with no errors? If both answers are yes then have you 1. Disabled the onboard sound device in the bios? and 2. Set the new audio as default playback device via Control Panel>Sound>Playback? As to making the pci slot live, it should be live all the time. If the card doesn't show at all then something is faulty. Can you try another card? Always helps if you can swap out and replace.

Tried other Soundcards, Lan cards, SATA cards. Everything.
None of them is even there.

I've tried disabling the OnBoard Audio yes.

None of the aforementioned devices were shown up in the Device Manager , ever.
Since the first bootup of the MB and Windows install, the devices in the PCI slot were like they never existed.

PS. I did 9 windows reinstalls, since then. XP, Vista, and Se7eN . Each of them had 3 versions. X86 and X64s .

~ Sincerely

I think I would suggest RMAing the board then. It sounds like it could well be a hardware problem as none of the devices have ever shown up when installed.

isn't the PCI slot disabled by connecting sata devices into sata II ports?

The simple answer to this Christoph is no. The SB850 chip that controls the PCI slot also controls the SATA3 ports. The SATA2 ports are controlled by the 890FX Chip.

I have most of my SATA3 & SATA2 ports filled and it has had no bearing on the PCI slot on my motherboard. I would have to agree with DM that in this case, RMA'ing the motherboard would seem to be the logical step, especially as the OP has tried several different PCI devices and none of them has worked.

what?

then why IF I connect an HDD to the sata II my second video card gets disabled?

my secong video card is connected to the PCI express x8 (the 4th PCI ex)

I'm sure that I've read somewhere in the manual that this will happen

Hi Christoph,

The problem here is with the PCI slot NOT the PCIe slots.

ohhhhh

sorry, I thought that the PCI would get disabled too and, well, your answer was a simply "no"
