Gigabyte GA-EP41-UD3L - Help Overclocking Please

Does it do the same with all system memory multiplie options? I'm almost out of ideas O_o would be good if anyone from gigabyte could shed some light on this?

set to (spd) looks like the only option,

PCI Express Frequency (Mhz) [Auto]
 Set to (Mzh) Just make sure this does not exceed 99Mzh, if you have a PCI express card installed,

It's all trial and error this overclocking malarky, be very careful as you could damage your hardware if your not clued up,
search for overclocking guides for your setup,
(measure twice, and cut once),

I have searched for overclocking my board but no details out there.  I think the board is just no good for overclocking.  Might get a different board in the near future if I cant solve this.  Maybe an Asus as they are renowned for overclocking.

Personally I would stick with gigabyte. Ive overclocked friends PCs with Gigabyte boards with no problems. Like you said maybe its just that board in particular. If its making the memory faster maybe it would be worth trying faster memorys so it's able to cope?

I have sent a message to gigabyte via their website about trying to stop the memory going up while increasing the fsb.

Hopefully they will come back

Here is the reply from Gigabyte technical help, do you think it could be this?

Answer :    Hi,

It is because of the EIST/C1E function, the system will automatically down the CPU frequency/voltage when system is at idle or no loading. Please try to disable both option and check again.

Can you tell me the setting in the bios so I can increase the fsb with out increasing the memory speed. I have tried setting the System Memory Multiplier to 2.0b to try to get a 1:1 ratio but as soon as I increase the CPU Host Frequency (Mhz) the Memory Frequency (Mhz) increases. This is what I am trying to stop, to keep the memory Frequency (Mhz) at 800.

Would be worth a try I guess and also disable speedstep. These are all power saving options which you can enable if you wish when stable overclock is achieved. If it doesn't work point the technical team at this thread

You don't ever want energy saving on as it causes stability issues and can cause damage to your CPU/Board when overclocking.

Bah how annoying! Let us know what they say. Just another thought...Did the board come with any clocking software whereby you can overclock in windows? I generally don't touch overclocking software..but maybe an option/worth a bash?

Here is the reply from Gigabyte.  Seems to be the motherboard due to the P41 chipset.  They have the same problem, I think another board may be needed if I want to o/c

According to related department, that P41/G41 chipset cannot do too much over clocking for CPU Host frequency.

We have tested other G41 chipset motherboards, they all fall on the same 340 FSB limit.

Maybe you can verify this issue with other brand motherboard with G41 chipset as well.

Here is our system configuration:

Motherboard: EP41-UD3L rev 1.0

Bios version: F5C

CPU: Intel Q9550

Memory: Crucial Ballistix DDR2 800 FSB 2 GB @dual channel

OS: Window Vista 64 bits.


Test done:

1. Bios setting to 340 FSB (attached BIOS Setting.jpg).

CPU clock ratio --> 8.0

Fine CPU Clock ratio --> +0.5

CPU HOST CLOCK Control --> Enabled

CPU HOST Frequency --> 340

Performance enhance à Standard

System Memory multiplier --> 2.4B

DDR2 Voltage control --> (2.00V) --> Base on your memory spec.

FSB Over voltage control --> (+0.1V)

GCMH Over voltage control --> (+0.1V)

CPU Voltage Control --> 1.25625V

Check system information (attached 340-OC.jpg)



2. Check on other G41 series motherboard like EG41MF-s2H (similar configuration above), same limit to 340 FSB (attached G41-at-340.jpg)

Aw thats a shame Atleast Gigabyte have cleared it up once and for all. You could sell that board and put the money towards a P45 chipset board perhaps?

Is it possible for a dual-core with a 1066 FSB to have a 266 MHz FSB wall? In my case I've tried almost everything to overclock an E6300 pentium processor (2.8 GHz)...
