Rear USB 3.0 Ports of GA-Z68XP-UD4 not working properly
« on: June 07, 2013, 12:48:41 pm »
I have build my PC around a GA-Z68XP-UD4. Everything works find aside from the rear USB 3.0 Ports ie the ones connected directly to the motherboard. All the other motherboard ports that I have checked work fine (Ethernet, USB 2.0 etc) but whenever I plug anything into the rear USB 3.0 ports its seems to power the device (it turns the little light on a USB 3.0 HDD) but it wont show up in my computer.

The same devices work fine when plugged into a USB 2.0 port directly above the USB 3.0 port. The USB 3.0 ports I have on the front of my case connected via a header work find. I don't think they ever worked. I just recent bought a big external HDD to use for backup that I would like to have connected all the time and subsequently would like to have it plugged in at the back, USB 2.0 will work, but obviously is slower.

I have updated bios and the drivers from the gigabyte website but no joy.

Any help would be appreciated.

Hi LawrenceOfArabia1990,

Welcome to forum,

What is your Revision of motherboard?
GA-Z68XP-UD4 (rev. 1.3)
http://www.gigabyte.com/products/product-page.aspx?pid=3977#ov
or
GA-Z68XP-UD4 (rev. 1.0)

See page 3 on the manual of motherboard...

What is a version of BIOS?

Describe with more details your hardware, like PSU, Ram, SSD, Hard Disk, ....
And a exact version of Windows...

Otherwise...

Did you try to switch of the “USB Storage Function” under “Integrated Peripherals” in the BIOS.
See page on your manual...

With this function set, You can for example use a USB storage device for updating the BIOS.
But with large USB Storage devices (yours 3TB) the system boots very slow.
When you switch off this function it boots faster to Windows, but Windows itself loads slower.

Describe with more details, your setting on BIOS, about USB3

Have you installed Etron USB3.0 Host Controller for your motherboad?
See file motherboard_driver_etron_usb3.exe on the drivers web page of your exact revision of motherboard....

This is a version 0.115 (this infos is not visible)

Hi,
First,
switch of USB storage Function. It's for USB Storage support in DOS Mode.
It slows down the boot into Windows dramaticly.

Secondly,
What tells the Device and Drive manager in Windows.
Do you see your USB3 and/or storage device there?

In the device manager, I see ETRON USB 3.0 Extensible Host Controller and ETRON USB 3.0 Extensible root hub. When I plug I device into these ports it does not appear under disk drives. The same devices do appear when plugged into the ports on the front of the machine or the non-usb 3.0 ports at the back.
